Sounds about right. There are eight different series (four east, four west) that run concurrent to each other, so there's no reason to NOT have games every night. Typically, they play every-other-night, and MAY have an extra day for travel after two games. There's more than enough to make sure games are always on. Same for the Stanley Cup.
The idea is that there will be more eyeballs available. There might be 4 games a night, but theyll draw 2 million each. While a single NFL Game draws 16 mil. MLS could just have its november playoff games like on a tuesday competing only with Maction.
Keep in mind the NBA's new playoff schedule has a national game almost every night between NBC, ABC/ESPN, Peacock and Amazon. https://www.nba.com/news/2025-26-nba-regular-season-schedule There's also the NHL...
Going way back, to the indoor soccer days of the 1980's - early 1990's, the regular season ran from approx Oct/Nov - April. Many things have changed obviously, but the thing was back then, how attendance tended to lag before the turn of the New Year. In particular, December games before Christmas were difficult draws. And weather, even though the games were played in arenas, had a big factor on attendance. If it were snowing, or ice on the roads, etc, attendance took a hit. What I am getting at, is with the proposed (rumored) MLS schedule, I can see the matches from October - December (before the break) lagging. End of July and August, you have the excitement of a new season, good weather, and prior to football season kicking off. So should be fine. Perhaps some of that carries over to September. But come October, more into football season, weather not the same, plus there is going to be a six week winter break coming up in the middle of the season. Personally, I think matches during that period will be difficult to sell out (harder to sell to casual fans and group sales). But, that is just my opinion. And then the playoffs in May, for those clubs that get to host a match or two, great. Those that don't make the playoffs, no home matches in May or June. (Instead, sell, sell, sell those Oct - early Dec home matches!!) And TV ratings, perhaps they will be better. And of course, more higher level international players will flock to MLS with the change in the schedule.
If people think that somehow the month of May would be owned by MLS, when there is MLB along with both the NBA and NHL playoffs? That's some severe goddamned copium. Don't forget, it will also be crunch time in EVERY OTHER FOOTBALL LEAGUE IN THE WORLD, so people will be watching their teams there feverishly, too. Just wow. MLS is blind, dumb, and deaf on this one. If I get a chance to tell them so, I will.
2-0 Fire, and now 2-1. This is another reason why I can't take Miami seriously. Yes, you can never truly count them out because of how much they score, but they can't defend. They're now tied for fifth most goals conceded, and still with a match and a half played FEWER than the majority of other teams.
That third goal is the 50th Miami has given up, one more than the Crew, and still with a match in hand and the second half of this one.
Doubt we host the play in game st this rate. Red bulls being eliminated helps our chances winning the final game, maybe
Chicago’s last two are against Toronto and New England, too. It should be noted that were we to manage to pull a shock and surprise Orlando this weekend, we’d pass them, and could potentially tie Nashville and Charlotte on points. Mathematically, a lot can happen. Unfortunately, those possibilities require us actually playing well enough to win.
Jasonma posted something about this on the mains that I found interesting. Columbus is the only Eastern Conference team to qualify for the playoffs of all the original MLS 1.0 teams. And out west, it looks like they'll only get one or two. Colorado is currently in, and Dallas is knocking on the door. (San Jose was an original, then moved to Houston, then was reincarnated, so whether or not they count as an original depends on philosophy, I guess.)
The 1996 Eastern Conference has four remaining teams. There's 15 teams in the 2025 Eastern Conference. Nine teams total make the playoffs. 15 teams competing for nine spots and four of those spots being occupied by particular teams seems like a bad bet. These things were a LOT easier to predict before Leagues Cup, CONCACAF, etc etc. At the start of next season, predict five random teams from the west to make the playoffs. I'd take the house winning.
I'll wager $1000 total on 10 bets of 4 selected teams, no set of 4 may be a duplicate of another but may contain up to 3 of the same team for the 2026 playoffs before the start of the first game of the season. I'll add a zero if you are willing to set up an escrow account.
