Trying to shoehorn a stadium in didn't stop the Clippers. And yes, I still think it's dumb the concourse there isn't 360⁰. They still don't have TVs behind home plate, AFAIK. Ohio Stadium renovations in the late 90s fixed the lack of a 360⁰ concourse there.
There was a gal on the old rec.sport.soccer who wrote "A Guide to England's Public Toilets"--referring to English stadia.
I *think* shoehorning is part of the reason why Fenway has the Green Monster. Sidenote: The southwest rotunda of the Schott has an interesting situation where the stairs from the upper level empty out directly into the rotunda. You basically have to get the attention of a staff member if you want to go from that door into the lower level.
Vancouver claims a large number of their players and staff got sick in Mexico before their beatdown in the final. Sound familiar? Going forward there are no excuses for MLS clubs. Eat nothing, drink nothing, that doesn't come with them from the plane. Or just fly in the morning/afternoon of. It's annoying, but better than the alternative. Or CONCACAF should step in and ban Mexican teams from hosting the final in Mexico. Does this happen in the semis? Quarters? Doesn't seem like it. Or they are lying. Not sure.
Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, the third time is enemy action....--Ian Fleming, Goldfinger. MLS should go to the CAS--yesterday.
Well, take this for what it's worth, because it's fan chatter, and I don't know all the ins and outs. But... There's a thread about this on the MLS Reddit sub, and a WHITECAPS FAN posted something to the effect that this one may have been caused by a post-match meal and not a pre-match one.
Still. What if it had been planned to be a pre-match meal and for some reason the team, knowing what happened to us last year, avoided the meals pre-match, and then partook post-match? It will be interesting to get more details. Perhaps we should demand a neutral site in the US in the future. This has been 2 years in a row now, and it is awfully convenient. I get the whole Montezuma's Revenge shit (no pun intended), but c'mon, this is pathetic, the food prepared at a hotel should be held to a higher standard.
Berhalter and White who left immediately after the game seem fine in USMNT camp for what that is worth
Some of this stuff you are ok in a day or two. I've had issues with a seafood allergy recently and I was fine in two days.
It really s*cks. I KNOW. From recent experience. BUT, you are almost back to normal in two days, so it should not affect their game later in the week.
When the only game is DC-Chicago, you take what you get. It's not even close. Chicago is having their way with DC. About 49:41, a little kid ran into the field. Oddly enough, it was the second time for a youthful pitch invader this season. Week one saw one in the SJ game.
No help yesterday in the Eastern Conference. Charlotte conceded a winner to Philly at 90+9. Cincinnati snapped the Revs' nine-game unbeaten run. Nashville blanked the Fire in Chicago. Miami was idle and now has two games in hand. Orlando shut out the Rapids in Colorado. The biggest beneficiaries on the day were NYC, who jumped from below the line up to 7th after blasting Atlanta on Thursday and then watched the three teams they jumped all lose. Past the halfway point of the season, it's pretty stark how much tougher the East has gotten. Though it's not too surprising when nearly every team besides Columbus made big acquisitions in the winter and spring. In PPG, five of the top seven teams in MLS reside in the East. Vancouver and San Diego are the only two out West among that bunch. The East has 10 teams with a positive GD plus Charlotte has a zero GD. Only four teams in the entire conference have a negative GD. Compare that to the West, where just six teams have a positive GD. Seattle is at zero GD. That leaves over half of the teams in the West carrying a negative GD. What is particularly scary is that most top teams in the East are not done adding. Philadelphia and Cincinnati both have an open DP spot and the Crew will presumably open up one too by buying down Nagbe. Miami will try some ********ery to skirt salary rules. Nashville is the only team really stuck, as they have spent close to the cap already and maxed their three DP slots, though they do still have one U22 spot open. Out West, it's really just Vancouver and San Diego who have the capacity to make impact signings as they both have a DP spot open and a ton of cap space for TAM level signings. LAFC just made a move to sign a forward from Club America on loan to replace Ünder, so they'll also try some ********ery but with being maxed out on DPs and up against the cap, there's a limit to what they can do. The Crew really need to kill it in this summer window or they will be left behind and staring down a full rebuild as early as next summer. They kicked off this arms race two summers ago and can't afford to be reticent about staying involved in it. The product needs to match ticket prices.
I would say that Columbus also made a big acquisition in Gazdag. However, that was, of course, diluted by the subtractions we made.
So, Cherundolo isn't going back to Hannover 96. At least not yet. They announced their new coach yesterday: Christian Titz. No, I am not making that up.
Thing is he doesn’t score in run of play much he was a PK guy 29/29 and 29/57 of his goals at Philly. So unless we start drawing PKs at a high clip it was a risky investment. He needs like Rossi to be a guy who feast on 1v1 because a superstar (like Cucho) has the defense on alert. We need a someone who scores and is a playmaker , a elite game changer and anything short of that … we will be just another good team in the east
