Toronto had problems early on, but they seemed to cool off once their season ticket waitlist turned into empty seats.
Yeah, except it's a lot of people who are either from Mexico, or have spent time there, or are just familiar with how things work there, and they are implementing it in SD. Things work very differently in Mexico than they do here. And the real issue is that it's not the organized supporters groups. When I was in SD, the p*to chant came from the section behind the goal opposite the supporters end. It was just random fans. How do you police it when it's random people? The people that made me uncomfortable, they weren't from the supporters group (I don't think). Just random dudes.
I remember the Chicago Fire having a contingent of Polish Ultras who tried to start shit with our fans a couple times. Before my tailgating days, I heard stories of one time where a couple of them actually approached some of our fans and challenged them to a 40 v 40 in a parking lot somewhere. There was another time where on the last day of the season, some internet chatter indicated they were going to try to crash our tailgate party and start a brawl, but it was known so far in advance that a police presence derailed it.
If that ever happens again call me I’m down to the knock the fire out of some Chicago fans! Sounds fun as long as it’s not in the stadium.
I have no doubt that you recall DC fans starting fights in the parking lot at HCS. One Crew fan was hit in the head with a brick and some other people were roughed up. They beefed up police presence after that but of course Crew fans, as always, took the reputation hit. Then there was the near-thing riot with Toronto fans very early on. There used to be a video.someone took from the upper deck looking down on the plaza. 5-0 took a couple TFC fans to.the lockup. But there was no question those guys came specifically looking for.a fight. They used to fill the entire south end upper deck. It was impressive, but that many drunks in a crowd can be volatile. There was the night the TFC fans tore out an entire section of galvanized railing and tossed it down from the south end upper deck. It may have been the same game where they tried to set that south end awning on fire by tossing lit flares onto it. And that's not to mention the night when the West Ham fans marched into.the Nordecke.and started punching people. They got as good as they gave until.the popo dragged them out. Used to be some lively times at Crew games but I have a hard time imagining anything similar going on at LDC.
I remember that. It was on BigSoccer and I told them that we would have a massive crew at a random parking lot in South Linden.
One time I got chased out of the Waldron parking garage next to Soldier Field (this was pre-remodel) with some F*re fans banging on my car. In fairness I had said some impolite things to them. Yeah, at least we didn't lost much ground in the standings, only 1 game out of first. One time at HCS (it was Chicago's 2nd or 3rd year in the league) the CDP had gone into the Fire fan section to arrest people for setting off flares. So I got to see the cop and hooligan locked in a grapple as they rolled down the stairs. Not as much fun as my mom's story about seeing Nelson Rockefeller in a fistfight.
The story in my wife's family is how her Uncle Dan got into a fight with some townies (they were out near Blacklick, as I recall). One of those was George H. W. Bush.
For sure, the F*re fans could get pretty chesty back then. They clearly felt that they had an eastern European tradition to.uphold. Or something. On the other.hand, DC fans were just dicks.
Also, ask my wife sometime what the sound of Columbus knuckles sound like against the head of a Fyre fan. Something about a watermelon getting hit by Gallagher.
How bad did the fy-ure suck in order for that twatwaffle to become a Rapids fan? Speaking of the Rapids, isn't it something special when we play an original team and even moreso when that team is from the west? Not including games TBA, we have 10 away games remaining. One of them is against Chicago and only one is against an original team. Our home schedule is slightly better with 3/9 being original teams. Expansion is fun but there's definitely a downside. Hey MLS..figure out a way to honor/recognize the best original team each season.
A few years ago a friend insisted that there should be a yearly OG tournament, not a separate event necessarily but a scheduling twist of.some kind. At the time I thought it sounded ridiculous but maybe its worth a thought. The league loves trophies and they could call it Garber Cup or something. Od like to see us play Dullass and SJ and the Gals every year. If the newbies dont like it, well, maybe they should have grown a pair back in 1995 instead of sitting around until.it was safe

Because people like putting things into groups: 1) Those of us who've been around from the beginning. 2) The doubters who bashed it in the early years, but only decided to take a chance because it looked like something fun. 2002: "Haha you like soccer? Hahaha that's cute. Not." 2022: "Hey, this Nordecke thing looks fun. Let's go to a game." Welcome aboard. The bandwagon has tons of space and the beer is cold...just one question: What the hell took you so long? 3) The people who were around in the early years, but have left for reasons that God only knows. "I liked it better when the players were sociable. It's too hard to cheer for them now" as they sit around and watch EPL, NHL, NFL, etc. "MLS is a joke. Single entity sucks and is ruining soccer in America. People prefer USL." -- Umm, you were around just a few years ago, but whatever. If you want to bail once the attendance is stuff that only happened in the dreams of 2012 and now there's Crew stuff all over town, it's your loss. My first thought when I had the idea for this competition was to do it DURING Leagues Cup play, but that doesn't seem right, as it'd probably mean the original nine wouldn't get to play Mexican teams. My second thought was to make a secondary/separate Supporters' Shield competition where the "Best Original Team at the end of the season gets the trophy" but that'd be more unbalanced than the Shield is. So I'm not sure what the answer is, but at least I see I'm not the only one with the idea. There's also the Chicago situation. They're an expansion team by every sense of the word, but they were supposed to have been an original team from 1996. Having ten teams might be better for scheduling than nine, unless you wanna have three groups: Group A: New England, New York, DC Group B: Columbus, KC, Colorado Group C: LA Galaxy, San Jose, Dallas, Group A makes all sorts of sense. I like Group B because it puts the two original Hunt Sports Group teams together. However, if you put Columbus and Dallas together... who remembers the "Pioneer Cup Because MLS Likes Cups Cup?" Apparently it's still a thing...but since we almost never play them, if we lost the Trillium Cup, let's see if the Pioneer Cup gets remembered next time... I doubt it. With Chicago: Group A: New England, DC, New York, Columbus, Chicago Group B: Dallas, KC, Colorado, San Jose, LA Play four games. Sites determined by... somehow...random draw? Last season's MLS standings? Three points for win, one for tie, zero for loss. The best two teams advance to the championship at the team with more points. Standard FIFA tiebreakers.
