The Rose Bowl looks about 80-90% full (with some empty seats at the top, behind each goal). But that is a lot better than some of the pre-game reports indicated. I was expecting a half-full stadium, based on those reports. So, what is that like 75,000-80,000 people? I doubt FIFA could get that level of attendance for this game anywhere else in the world.

I guess but if they played in europe we wouldn't hear a silent crowd, this feels like a preseason game

Ok yeah, two European teams would have more fans at the game if it was played in Europe. This is obvious. What’s your point?

Here in Seattle, there are thousands of tickets still available on the Ticketmaster website roughly three hours before kickoff.

This Sounders fan is going to a friend's house to BBQ....may or may not try to watch the game on DAZN.....

If FIFA hadn't tried to gouge fans, the stadium would be sold out.....but the ticket prices are way too high.....

80,619 according to the official stadium attendance count (which they claim is the largest crowd both clubs have had all season)

But yes, the vast majority of fans were casuals and neutrals

It was fun to watch a 4-0 match, but dear lord was it a nightmare to get in and out the stadium. It literally took 2 hours just to get from the stadium’s freeway exit to the parking lot (1 mile distance). Worst part is I prepaid $50 for the stadium parking online, but when I got there they weren’t even checking people’s QR codes or charging for parking. Most people just parked without paying.

The MetLife Stadium is crowded and I feel the atmosphere coming from Brazilian supporters.

I knew things couldn't be worse than the Copa America last year.
    For now...
It's a great test from FIFA and the USA one year before the FIFA World Cup next year.

Better atmosphere in this match. European clubs you will get bad atmosphere. South American teams you will probably get good atmosphere because many fans have flown in from our countries to attend the matches. My guess is that not many European club fans have made the trip and the ones who attend live in the US.

Glad you enjoyed. I obviously follow them so I look at our deficiencies which is mainly lack of quality in the final third. Should have probably won this as Porto physically faded in the last 20 mins.

you guys suffered in the air but honestly the issue is Porto are just better in that aspect.

    all aerial battles were lost

but you should squish Miami and Al Ahly no problem, no doubt about it.

you did south america proud, im proud of you guys

Same as the World Cup, the Latin American fans show up and bring the atmosphere - anytime, anyplace. There are very few Palmeiras, Flamengo, Boca Juniors, Monterrey, etc fans who don’t have a deep connection to the team (no glory hunting TV fans). And thousands, as you said, are actually traveling to the matches from their home countries.

European fans don’t travel nearly as well outside their continent, so while the big Euro team matches will have big attendance, it’s mostly filled with neutrals or Real Madrid, Man City, PSG, etc “fans” who live in the US and whose only connection to the team is wanting to watch a winning team on TV and have likely never been to Madrid, Manchester, or Paris. As you might expect, these fans generally aren’t nearly as organized or passionate in the stands.

actually I take it back, the games kick off much later. I thought it would be like today

so I'll miss like half of the Chelsea game but should be home for the rest of them.

Im excited for that Boca Juniors match although not expecting much because they are in one hell of a rut right now and even Cavani will be missing

PSG-Atleti? I would have to disagree. That match could draw 75K or 80K in a number of places. But that was a great attendance at the Rose Bowl - no doubt.

Yep, the best atmosphere I’ve experienced attending five CWC’s over the years involved either South American or Arab clubs.

The competition is obviously still fighting for attention with the European audience, but I like to think if you put the 2029 version in Iberia-Morocco the atmosphere would be much improved for most matches.

European and Arab fanbases would be close by and, as stated already, Latin American fans always travel extremely well.

Hesitant to comment again on attendance, but this one doesn’t look close to being full. :D
