Oddly enough CONCACAF is building a stadium in the Dominican Republic which is about half way between those two cities. I don't think this will happen but I wouldn't be surprised if they came up with some kind of small tournament in the future as they had an agreement before the WCW was finalized. Also the travel thing is being worked on but sadly not transporters or wormholes.
I think Inter Miami gained some new fans in Miami tonight. I never believe in trying to win over the haters, I usually go with the line from The Untouchables when it comes to fans, "if you're afraid of getting a rotten apple, don't go to the barrel, go to the tree."
One team got out of the group which is a big feat in itself considering everyone expected no MLS team do so. The haters were expecting all MLS teams to get humiliated specially Seattle that was in the toughest group. It's going to go up from here. Maybe not 2029 but by 2033 getting 1 win or only having 1 team getting out of group stage will be seen as a disappointment not a win like right now. Baby steps. It's the first CWC.
Qualifying more than three terms in the future with the current setup, might mean one step forward this time, two steps back in 2029. They would need to win all three future CCC's just to get the same amount of teams in the next tournament. I can't see that happening and wouldn't be surprised if it was zero from MLS.
One of the many problems with this Club World Cup is some teams are taking it seriously, others don’t care much. . So can the winners call themselves genuine world champions ? The champions of Italy, Spain and England aren’t there. What does it all mean ?— Ian Darke (@IanDarke) June 24, 2025 Ian Drake is not at all impressed
An expanded CWC will give CONCACAF more than 4 spots. It's the only way MLS can get in if it doesn't win the next 3 CCCs. By the 2033 CWC with the new MLS CBA in full effect and hopefully with the changes everyone claim are coming then MLS should have no problem winning CCCs after 2029.
The Champions of Europe weren't in the last WC. Argentina can't call themselves World Champions according to his logic.
Not an opinion I particularly care for. Opening qualification to national leagues (other than the host team) is “skipping” a step. Qualification should be based on continental play and nothing else.
MLS's 5th, 11th and 16th best teams based on current PPG are there, as are Mexico's 7th and 8th best teams and the teams in 1st, 4th, 6th and 8th in the Brasiliero. Who else would you want? It's a real shame that Tottenham and Manchester United aren't there. In other words, he has a point. PSV or Ajax and Club Brugge would have been great additions to represent Europe's second tier, instead of two Portuguese clubs but Benfica and Porto are ahead in the coefficients. How about FIFA should play all its tournaments in November. At least you could get most of the current continental champions at the CWC and you wouldn't have to worry about hot weather. It would completely screw up some leagues, particularly MLS, but they'd have to find a way. Or January, then you can play in the desert during the European winter break (**** the EPL).
I’m satisfied with what MLS did on a first attempt at this. Miami exceeded my expectations, LAFC fell a bit short, and Seattle about what I expected in that group. Moreover the games confirmed my general view that MLS is just like any other league at the end of the day, different to some in terms of skill level and investment but not the day to day competitive grind.
Unless a Mexican team wins the CCC twice, in which case a team will either get in based on CONCACAF rankings, or on being runners-up, or a combination. I assume MLS owners will suddenly start taking the CCC far more seriously.
Weather delay in Nashville. Storm cell popped up right on the city, there's literally nothing else going on.
Congrats to Auckland City amateurs for scoring a goal against the Juniors of Boca 1-1 in the 54th What's that? Technically ACFC scored both of the goals?
Not even one drop has fallen and I haven't heard any thunder. They could have finished this game on time lol
I assume Auckland City's Nikko Boxall is a relative of Michael Boxall. At the 75th minute water break, still 1-1. Both teams playing for pride now, while one team is also playing to avoid shame.
