With Inter Miami being sort of a South American select side grafted onto MLS, if you count them as South American too, CONMEBOL is really shining at this thing. It’s like the 2014 World Cup in that way.

FIFA and CONCACAF agreed to split the country originally to keep travel time down and to prevent cannibalizing each other's event too much, with the CWC in the Eastern half except for Seattle's games so they could play at home and the Gold Cup mostly in the Western half. Not sure when/why the Rose Bowl got added.

 

It was included when the other venues were announced in September, presumably to complement Lumen Field as part of a West Coast group.

The CWC completely ruined the gold cup for me. Every gold cup game I've watched so far has been just crap.

As I recall, the CONCACAF Gold Cup was played in February from 1996 to 2002.

Then it switched.

Anyway, as it is, it seems like most fans care about the CWC as opposed to the national team tournament.

 

I heard the Tenemos que ganar chant from either El Salvador or Honduras fans tonight. So is it authentic when they do it but not when MLS supporters do it?

Blame FIFA. This has been the established window and location for the Gold Cup for a while. Then FIFA decided to drop their newest money-making scheme right on top of it.

 

Tuned into my USL club tonight and enjoyed it fully. Definite contrast to the big CWC matches, but cool in its own right.
