Statistically - yes. It actually extends beyond Concacaf. No non-Conmebol team has ever beaten a UEFA club in regulation time. And many illustrious clubs from around the world have tried for over 20 years. But here we are. “Invited” Inter Miami…
I was going to question the attendance but it's filled out and there are still hundreds of late arrivals taking their seats according to the announcers.
All time apparently Which is officially recorded as a draw. So this would be the first victory of any kind.
Did a quick review of Concacaf at the Club World Cup. Prior to this edition, there had been 11 UEFA v. Concacaf matches, with Concacaf teams losing 9, drawing 2, outright winning 0. Both draws were Necaxa in 2000, with the forementioned penalty shootout win over Real Madrid in the third-place match, plus a group stage draw with Manchester United. If there have been any other intercontinental matches featuring Concacaf that FIFA deems "competitive," please let me know so I can dig into it.
Has Jesus Ferreira really been so bad in Seattle that he can't start over Danny Musovski at center forward?
Oof penalty conceded. They just can't handle Giuliano Simeone's speed. VAR check. Might go back to just a foul.
I only watched the last 7 minutes plus stoppage…was the whole half that one sided? If so, Sounders lucky to be down only 1.
Well the scoreboard says a 2 goal difference, which is better than I had expected. If Ferreira knew the offside law it could have been one goal.
That's a wrap. Not a bad showing for Seattle IMO. I need Botafogo, in case they lose, to lose with dignity just like Pachuca yesterday and Seattle just did. These Europeans are on fraud watch. I was expecting blow outs and so far it has only happened to a literal amateur team and to Al Ain.
