It will be interesting to see how FIFA approaches two Saudi PIF owned clubs in 2029. My guess? Nothing will happen. Still no announcement on the playoff venue.
Waiting this long is going to limit the venue they choose. They won't sell out the Rose Bowl in like 1 week...
The play-in for a spot at the #FIFACWC has been confirmed. ✅#TakeItToTheWorld— FIFA Club World Cup (@FIFACWC) May 16, 2025 Leagues Cup redux it is. Now at the FIFA level with $10M on the line. Club America have every right to complain about this one. Even if tickets are sold as a "neutral venue", homefield advantage is more than noise in the stands. It includes (lack of) travel and familiarity with the pitch.
Or if playing outside LA is that unfair to LAFC from a crowd perspective (as apparently was argued) - a closed door match in San Diego.
https://www.lafc.com/news/lafc-to-h...p-2025-play-in-match-on-may-31-at-bmo-stadium So not even ticketing is handled as a “neutral” venue.
It was unfair to have them play in the first place. No one complained then. Now that it's in LA people start complaining. Typical.
Posted by @NYdog U.S. Soccer has authorized a special, 10-day transfer window from June 1-10 ahead of the Club World Cup and MLS will implement it only for clubs in the tournament, per sources. The Seattle Sounders & Inter Miami are in + LAFC could qualify. https://www.givemesport.com/us-soccer-mls-approves-pre-club-world-cup-transfer-window-sources/ So LAFC or CA get 10 days to contact agents, negotiate contracts, facilitate transfers, obtain visas and integrate players into the squad.
Unless you get your reinforcements from within your league. If LAFC wins that will be difficult to do since MLS is still in season. If America wins they can "borrow" players from other Liga MX teams just for the World Cup.
Also any players added will be eligible for MLS play, per Bogert. And the reason they didn't open the window for the whole league is that its only available for FA's who have teams in the CWC, and the Canadian FA doesn't. So they could open it for those 3 teams or the 27 American teams, but not the 3 Canadian teams.
In another thread they posted a video of Herc explaining how the rules for signing those players were going to be for every single team in the CWC before they came out officially. Able to sign 6 players. 4 of those players must stay with the team for at least one year. 2 players can be signed short term just for the CWC. So technically for Miami and Seattle those other 4 players they can sign early have to fit under the cap. Neither of them have DP spots open. Their additions won't be necessarily to help in the CWC but will be for league play.
Club America have reached the final of the Clausura, meaning an intense series against Toluca awaits (with the potential of a fourth consecutive Liga MX title). Club America Schedule May 22 - CD Toluca May 25 - @CD Toluca May 31 - @LAFC LAFC Schedule May 24 - @CF Montreal May 31 - Club America

Too much money not to care, plus teams like Madrid partake in trophy collection. Their seasons are defined by trophy numbers.
Right, but most will get a trophy once every decade or 2 and throw a huge parade. The mega teams look at every year and judge it by the number of trophies won.
Real Madrid are record club world champions with eight titles, dating all the way back to the inaugural Intercontinental Cup in 1960. In fact, it was then president Santiago Bernabeu who lobbied strongly for a “club world title” after Real Madrid won five consecutive European Cups from 1956 to 1960. These discussions also gave birth to the Copa Libertadores, which didn’t exist before, as South America needed a representative. Real Madrid always cared.
Real Madrid made $154 million from last year's Champions League and in a bad year they probably make $100 million. By the time they compensate their players for missing their summer vacation, their earnings from CWC will be peanuts, though I guess it will help with FFP. And I don't think anyone in Europe who's team isn't involved will be staying up all night to watch glorified friendlies between teams who were good in 2022.
