Activating a purchase on the loan to get him for 1.2M and by doing that now I think he stays TAM level since it’s prorated so it’s not like he is a DP. Idk if we give him a new contract but he was making a lot of money on a long term deal with them and has been a good back up. I’m fine with keeping quality depth , could mean that we might finally accept a offer for one of our starting wingbacks ??? It’s interesting , been wondering how this would play out.
1.2 mil isn't a lot in MLS, perhaps the team thinks they can resell him at a higher price? We could certainly use a Benteke type forward to play between Rossi and Gazdag.
I don’t think it’s to resell him. I’m not sure anyone would pay us more than 1.2M anytime soon. But if he is happy here he must be fine waiting for his opportunity to start. I think he plays well just not good enough to take minutes from Farsi.
No Moreira is not out of contract but could have his option declined i mentioned this in my breakdown the biggest wild card was Herrera
IW posted a while ago that we took some big swings in the last window and are likely going to continue in the summer window. Issa has indicated publicly that he wants a culture fit. I foresee a new 9 in the next window of substance. Will they deliver at Cucho levels, unlikely.
Right, but it’s almost unimaginable that the Crew wouldn’t exercise his option. Same with Nagbe. Why do you think he’d even be considering retirement?
Nagbe has kids and he isn’t what he once was and he gets fouled a lot and he probably doesn’t truly need more money. I’m not saying he will retire but it definitely could be a possibility, I don’t think he will get another contract. Don’t know if the option is his or the Crew but I can’t see him playing past 2026. I’m just guessing and could be wrong.
I'm not saying JRR is of the same quality. Just saying Gazdag has similar help in terms of numbers. I don't know that's the issue. I was hoping since he was already in MLS his learning curve would be quicker (to non-existent), but I think he just needs more time to get comfortable with his teammates. He'll get there.
We are currently 4th in SS standings and are tied with Vancouver for fewest losses. What is the incentive for a Cucho type signing? They'll sign someone. Maybe a low DP level or a TAM level player or a U22 player (less likely) And quite frankly, they'd be right by doing so. With Miami's recent slide, is there anyone that really scares you as is? They're a contender right now. They can't be complacent. Others will be hitting the market too. But they don't need a big splash to stay a contender or even become a betting odds favorite
Mildly shocking, tbh. He's been fine; looked very good at times, but also a bit pedestrian at times. Price seems steep for guy who can't really crack starting line up and seems destined to be a bench role player.
The incentive is to develop a roster that will win championships. In 2023, by the summer window, Nancy and Bez got together and concluded the team had a legit shot at winning MLS Cup, a year earlier than had been the plan. Which led to the Zelerayan sale and Rossi acquisition. Pretty bold moves, by any definition. In 2025, the team clearly has a shot at winning MLS Cup, but do we - or more to the point, does Nancy - really think we're just a "low DP level or a TAM level player or a U22 player" away from achieving that? I doubt it. Other teams have re-loaded, and we'll need to do so, as well. Our track record of spending big on major attacking players and seeing that investment translate into championships has been undeniable in recent years. That's the kind of player I believe we need to maximize our chances at winning more hardware this year. A game changing attacker, and those don't come on the cheap. In one sense, I'm less concerned about our willingness to go that route than I am about our capacity to pull off the deal. Jimmy has to agree to write a big ass check, and he's either willing to do that, or he's not. But let's say he is. Can Tall and, whatshisname... Mark Nicholls(?) get this done? Recall, Nicholls was the guy the team put in charge of scouting after McGuinness left and they downsized the role. Near as I can tell, this is first job scouting adult players; his previous talent ID jobs were with academies. But he does have a British accent, so there's that. Anyway, until Tall and Co have landed a big fish, I'll remain hopeful but less than fully confident in their ability to do so. But that's the caliber of player we need.
Completely disagree. They've feasted on bad teams and struggled to score on and beat those bad teams. Their two best wins based on current standings are 8th place Charlotte and 8th place San Jose, both at home. They will need to beat multiple top teams in the playoffs. They need a top level DP #9 to do that.
I've liked him from the very beginning. In fact istm that he was better when he first came here. Lately, hes seemed more tentative and maybe overthinking, which is odd; usually the timing of that sort of change is the opposite. But if Wilfried thinks the guy can contribute, Im happy. As for Gazdag, Im a bit more troubled. I always recall Bruce Arenas philosophy on bringing in veterans both with the Nats and his clubs. He liked the fact that if a quick tactical change or a position switch or something came up he could take a guy like, say, Hejduk for example (like in LA) say a few words and he'd know what you want and how to.do.it because he'd done it before.and seen it a dozen times With a young kid, you dont have that kind of flexibility. Gazdag has been around a bit. You'd think he could pick up a system on the fly. As we've observed previously, Nancy hasn't reinvented the game, and he's not doing anything much that hasn't been done before. He's just really good at it.
Alenandre Lacazette is available this summer for free. He's a little old, but plays a Cucho style game. Wouldn't be a bad signing for 18 months or so.
