Per Edgar (and some others) Zawadzki, Max, Schulte, and Aidan are on the USMNT preliminary gold cup roster. It will be narrowed to 26. But weird to see Sean pop up if hes not going to be selected. Rowe is on Canada's, but marsch doesnt rate him so.
Hope Zawadzki gets good minutes at CB , did he play RCB last year for them ? I always was saying he was much better at CB with potential rather than being an average CM. I think Nancy can take a lot of credit but it’s all because of Sean’s hard work and mentality.
This was my opinion when we signed him originally. Both of Rossi and him are better when someone else is pulling all the gravity away.
Yeah. I honestly feel like I am legit becoming sunshine brigade compared to a lot of you. I can see what Gazdag is trying to do with is quick passes and his runs around the box. He just doesn't have anyone he is connecting with right now. Bringing in a 9 that has a little bit of pace but is much better with the ball around the box than JRR or Aliyu is going to do wonders for Gazdag IMO and to a lesser extent, Rossi.
I thought Gazdag made a couple of great runs into the box and nobody passed him the ball. One in particular, he was in prime position with nobody within 3 yards and (I think) Arfsten decided to shoot it right into the defender. Also, Gazdag’s wiffed shot that was criticized here, really his fault as the ball was played a bit behind him.
From watching this game, he was just a tad off in where he needed to be or other players expected him to be, especially early. He was very energetic. Im debating if he just needs to watch a game on the bench to see how it flows or if the next game it all clicks
I am still really high on him as a player and think he can be a cornerstone of our title team but we need another real attacker in front of Rossi and him.
Gazdag will be fine. Nancy's system can take a bit for guys to get used to. You can see he's thinking WAY too much which leading to little mistakes (like his bad touch in the box that should have resulted in a goal) and overly conservative play. As he gets more comfortable, his quality will begin to show. I also think Nancy is trying to figure out exactly how he wants Gazdag to play. The last couple games we've seen him play a little deeper compared to the first couple games where he seemed to be playing closer to the opponent's back line. And I agree with others. Get a threatening number 9 in here and we will really see Rossi and Gazdag start to shine. If we can get a number 9 that's in the top quarter of the league in terms of quality, we will become dominant very quickly.
I don't know much about the way Philly's offense was structured, but it's clear Gazdag has always played alongside other scoring threats. Last year, he scored 17 goals; Uhre had 10; Baribo had 9. In 2023, Gazgad at 14, as did Carranza; Uhre had 9. In 2022, Gazdag had 22 goals; Carranza 14; Uhre 13. We just don't have that kind of attacking depth right now. That said, good players adjust to the situation they find themselves within. With Cucho gone, Rossi is dong his best to pick up the scoring slack. Gazdag has to do the same. I can see him really flourish playing alongside a top shelf no. 9. But until that player arrives, he's going to have to find a way to generate some goals and assists.
I love Max's tools. But his final third decision making and passing is not great. He can deliver a good cross with either foot, but most of them come from end line runs (outswingers) or step overs coming inside (inswingers), where there is only one decision to make. And he simetimes uncorks wonderful shots. But his pass/shoot decision-making and through ball passing need development. But I think he can get there. And I think Nancyball might be hurting him somewhat on the score, with the emphasis on passing it into the net.
I am assuming this will be mostly an A team roster. Max, Aidan, & Sean are fringe guys. Is Guatemala qualified? Hagan will be gone, too, then.
Yeah I know, and that is a lot of spots to fill. I dont think they would take the time to change the preliminary roster much from the last one in March unless you plan on calling them in. Like Zimmerman has been out injured the past 2 months, and they just left him on it. It takes some effort to place him on there. Ledezma, Berhalter, Freeman, Blackmon, Zawadzki, Yow, and Dest are the changes from the March one. Wes, Weah, and Gio are not on there due to the CWC.
Based on some of Schulte's performances this season he is working his way into being more of a fringe player.
Based on some of the performances or lackthereof of the rest of the GK options, hes still in the hunt. This is from Sunday. Schulte was at 2.6 before the cincinnati game. (That green number essentially means how many goals he saved more than what was expected.)
Right, the abnormally low quality of GK pool is a big reason why he's in the hunt still. I like Schulte and given his young age I think he has the potential to eventually cement himself in the NT picture, but he has some weak spots in his game that really need some work. His reaction saves tend to be top notch, but his decision making in other areas if often poor and he can be very indecisive. He's still only 24 though, which is like 18 in field player years, so hopefully he can improve in the areas of his game that are lacking.
I was curious to see how this season compares to last. Through 14 regular season matches: 2024 — 6W-2L-6D | 21 GF - 13 GA 2025 — 7W-1L-6D | 22 GF - 14 GA Of course, we had played four more matches by this time in 2024 due to CCC. Still, given the roster changes up front and the general vibes, I wasn't expecting the goal numbers to be so close. Makes me wonder how many more we would have put away with Ramirez still here or Gazdag playing like a DP.
Rossi and JRR are pretty much on their way of matching Uhre and Baribo last year year or Carranza and Uhre the year before
Agreed. I just don't think it's going to be some big DP player. I think Gazdag *was* our "big" DP player.
If our "big" DP player is a 4.5 million transfer when other teams in our division are spending 10-30m on guys, we are in trouble.
Rossi, I have no doubts about. Re: JRR, it could be. Though I'd note that Baribo only played 400 more minutes than JRR has already logged in generating those numbers last year. But, yeah, as has been noted, you really can't complain about the overall goals scored number for the team this year, despite losing such a big chunk of last year's production.
UPDATE🚨It is understood that #Crew96 are activating the purchase option on Andres Herrera, on loan from River Plate, for roughly $1.2 million.Made 6 appearances this season, for 19 in total across Crew spell. Been quality when called upon. pic.twitter.com/DCb6ikPd5f— Crewrhino (@thecrewrhino) May 20, 2025 I'm surprised. Seems likely that the Crew are not adding any defenders this summer with this move.
Who am I to judge? He seems to be pulling down a fairly large salary for a guy who rarely plays and takes up an int'l slot. On the flip side, he's still just 26 (turns 27 in November). I assume Nancy sees something in him to justify the investment. Re: other defenders, let's just hope no one gets hurt. And as much as I prefer Zawadzki over Camacho at CB, it would be nice of Rudy got healthy enough to provide just a bit more depth in the back.
