Can we though? Can we find better? I’m not saying offer him a huge contract or that he’s the answer to our prayers, but we aren’t exactly hurting for cap space and a veteran with a wealth of knowledge and experience would be nice to have on the training grounds and to fill in in a pinch.
He is better then Erik Hurtado but not sure he fits what we’re doing even off the bench. I think and hope we sign someone better than him or say Kei Kamara. League minimum striker off the bench is prob better than a open roster spot but I’m sure they are working on something better and unfortunately they are really slow at making it happen
If this team truly cannot find someone better than Zardes then we might as well just pack it in for this season. No one here dislikes Gyasi. But you can't turn back the clock. Beyond that, this team's acquisitions over the last two transfer windows have been, to say the least, underwhelming. They've also tended to be cheap, budget signings. During a period where two of our most important players have been sold and other important players have begun to lose a step. This club needs to make some statement - not stopgap - signings. I won't pretend to have followed Zardes' career closely after he left Columbus. To be fair to him, he played on some crappy teams. Still, his productivity has tailed off as he's gotten older. I guess I wouldn't reject his presence on the roster outright if the team were doing other things that showed they were committed to keeping us competitive. But after failing and failing again to replace key players with players of similar talent level, signing a former player like Zardes would go over like a lead balloon.
Is Camacho & LL still out? I thought i heard one of them was training on the side. Is it possible one of them could make the bench Saturday , Bush Dejuan Jones Cheberko Zawadzki Herrera Nagbe Derrick Jones Chambost Rossi JRR AZ Bench Mrowka Sejdić???? Camacho ??? LL ???? Crew2 players
Crew are going to run out of available call ups of that Crew 2 defender by the end of March…what a good job by Issa filling out the roster
Homegrowns get 6 callups now not including cup competitions. The online roster rules don't specify if that means squad selections or caps. Adams, Presthus, and Brown have been in the squad once. The draft pick would be on his third callup of four this weekend, and he would have one more. We could call up palacios until we fill that open international roster spot.
The odd thing is that do we know which Crew 2 players would qualify as "off-roster Homegrown players" as the rules specify? The rules do say that these guys can make "up to six appearances via Short-Term Agreements in League Season matches..." so it's pretty clear that they can actually play in six matches. Crew 2 player who aren't Homegrown can "be included on up to four MLS league season match rosters each season, however, that player may appear in no more than two MLS league season matches."
I lean towards them being actual appearances. Im just surprised the union allowed unlimited callups (unless there is an unpublished rule). I do not know what an off roster homegrown is. Maybe it excludes those few homegrowns signed to an expensive second team deal that would put them above the supplemental roster pay if they were on the first team?
Well the fire signed this homegrown after 2 appearances and needing him for a potential third. He wasn't a fire homegrown tho /shrug/ https://www.chicagofirefc.com/news/...dfielder-sam-williams-from-new-york-red-bulls
Someday, one of you will post something about an actual roster addition instead of moaning about Tall doing nothing. Lots and lots of pages of that. Yawn...
It's not like I'm the President of his fan lub or anything, and in fact I wouldn't recognize him I tripped over him in my front yard, but it seems a little rude to keep calling g the kid " the draft pick". His name is Cesar Ruvulcaba a low second round draft choice. He played 3 years at Cal Poly Pomona before transferring to SMU for his senior year. The better question is why, if the Crew are such astute drafters, they traded their first round pick to RSL for a lousy $75,000 in GAM which they apparently don't really intend to do anything with, whereas they could have come up with a warm body of some sort.
Seems like a good striker is available And not wanted right now at his current club , could the Crew target him ? Saw this mentioned on the Nordecke Facebook group. For the right price maybe we could get him, I don’t watch Celtic so I’m unsure if he would fit our system well but maybe some of you have seen him play would have a more informed opinion. https://www.si.com/onsi/soccer/celtic/news/kyogo-set-leave-rennes-just-months-celtic-exit
MLS net (just kidding) article says: "Speaking to folks in that front office, the reason why they went with the Designated Player model and not the U22 Initiative model and the additional GAM, is they want to have open spots to bring in at least one hopefully, maybe even two DPs, in this window that ends on April 23. Those spots are open. The gunpowder is ready to go.”" Tick tock
The other reason being that we have zero U22 players. So it’s not as though we’re lacking in roster flexibility.
This is the second time that they have gone on record saying we'd have reinforcements before this window ends. They better make it happen
Well, it’s too late now for the fixture congested and the international window part of the early season. Nice work, Issa.
