I'm not sure yet, Certainly the Crew would not sell an International slot if they didn't have a plan. And I'm with Bill Archer, 100K seems ridiculously low, so it makes no sense at all unless they know already that they won't need it.
Well, we sold an INT spot to SD for $100,000 in Garberbux. https://www.sandiegofc.com/news/san...-international-roster-slot-from-columbus-crew We will see on the status of Zawadzki and Jackson tomorrow (HG or not). Salary cannot exceed Max Budget unless it is a HG/Superdraft on 2nd contract, who can earn Max Budget +$200k. Clubs may pay acquisition costs without limit (out of pocket, no GAM/TAM). If that's the case, then it's a pretty good deal. It's also awfully close to.extortion but I can live with that.
We lost Kelvin Jones to SD. Big loss for Crew 2 and the academy. He worked under their coach, Varas, and one of the FO guys worked for the Crew.
Yes, he now would be next. Gus was next in line before leaving last year. U18 coach Chris Rogers would also be in the running.
List of unprotected players is out. Bush, Evan Chambost, Dylan Hagen, Nicholas Herrera, Andrés Jones, DeJuan Jones, Derrick Matan, Alexandru Romero, Abraham Yeboah, Yaw
But if there's a deal in place that SD won't pick our guys, why does it matter? Was Kelvin Jones recruited away?
Seems like it. Varas and him were both USYNT coaches. Varas was a candidate for the crew job after Porter.
In typical Crew fashion, nothing on the site about the protected list. And in order to keep things as opaque as possible, MLS released only the unprotected lists. So no clarity on Zawadzki and Jackson. But we did protect these guys who are most certainly NOT GA/HG: Cucho, Rossi, Nagbe, Moreira, Camacho, Amundsen, Cheberko, Farsi, Arfsten, Ramirez, and Hinestroza. That's 11. I am amazed Hinestroza is on that list. Yes? Or maybe not? Did his loan option get picked up. Unprotected (9): Bush, Hagen, Romero, Derrick Jones, DeJuan Jones, Herrera, Yeboah, Matan, Chambost. None of our big summer window guys were worthy of protection (D. Jones, Herrera, Chambost). Though as Bill says, it may not matter if we have a deal. Certainly GA/HG: Schulte, JRR, Habroune, Mrowka. Questions: Zawadzki, Jackson. Seems sure at least 1 had to be protected, maybe both if Hinestroza not protected. Shouldn't Hughes be on the unprotected list as well?
So it looks like were losing YY tonight who was out of contract anyways. I'd guess we requested this as part of our deal with them.
Gotta love MLS math. We sell them a int'l slot at below market rate. But then we get $50K in GAM back for them picking a player we didn't want anyway.
Hinestroza cannot stay out of trouble. He was fined around 500 USD and suspended 2 games for wiping his mouth on the corner flag at an away game, he will miss both legs of the finals... https://www.footboom1.com/en/news/f...acional-loses-two-key-players-ahead-of-finals https://www.footboom1.com/en/news/f...three-key-players-following-dimayor-sanctions
Yaw just started following SD on the gram and unfollowed the crew. The Applebee's waitresses are really getting around tonight https://bsky.app/profile/stevengoff.bsky.social/post/3ld2o3gcrqs2t
