There were some JUICY chances early in the match and somehow Cuypers skied it over the bar from the 1 foot line??? Had one of those 3 early chances gone in yes Fire would be clinging to a 1-0 lead. All in all I like that even down a man the Fire looked dangerous and the effort was there last night. Now just sign KDB and Fire are in business.

    No, sir.
    This is the OPTIMISM Thread.
    They won 8-0.

As for Cuypers, it is easy to see how it skied. It was just unfortunate that the ball hit him at a weird angle and went up instead on into the net.
Sometimes, physics and geometry defy OPTIMISM.

As well as that Cuypers ball his foot hit the leg of the defender right before the ball...that could very well make a huge difference. This was Not a Chad Barrett!

In my opinion this quote is legit. Thirteen games in and still in the playoff picture. What a great game by the midfield! I have to admit I thought Oregel was going to be too small for this league and I have never been so happy to be wrong. He seems to be getting better every game. M Pineda has been a pleasant surprise too. I thought his best position is at CB but he seems to be a legit DM. His passing has gotten exponentially better since the beginning of the year.

Couple items- Gutierrez (no surprise) and Gutman (surprise!)named to Team of the Week.
Also- Gutierrez ( again, no surprise) and Brady (a little surprise) were named to preliminary 50 player list for Gold Cup. Final route of 26 to be announced Thursday.
Assuming US plays in Final and assuming no lingering injury incurred, selection to roster would mean missing 5 MLS matches (4 home,1away) and unknown number of US Open matches. They would be missed!

If Guti makes the 26 and there’s a real chance KDB joins in July…that would set up conditions that favor selling Guti and bringing in a CB.

Hard to imagine GGG playing both KDBand Guti, our defense isn’t good enough to support it.

That said, it would be good for Guti, and sad for fans that would like to see him ‘grow into his potential’ as a top 10 MLS attacking midfielder…before leaving to expand his career.

Didn’t work …in the past. Guti defense is clearly improving. Couple that with some better back row defense, especially if a strong CB is found, and it may work

Agreed, if we get a defense and Guti continues to improve it might work. I think that’s pretty obvious.

Would be pretty hard for opponent’s defenses to focus on all 5 strong threats- Cuypers, Gutierrez, KDB, Bamba and Zinck- at the same time.

I’m a Pineda fan, but that’s a lot to put on any CDM…and he’s our best option.

Of course, DeBruyne and Gutierrez could share the same field, but it might mean sitting Bamba
    Oh, yes, please!

Simple. Start Acosta! (I duck as to you throw a beer stein at me ;)).
    Kouame needs to step up.

Sitting a DP to play a HG is about as ludicrous as blaming an 8mil DP’s lack of scoring on everyone else.

Speaking of not playing up to their cv, expectations and their salary:ROFLMAO:

My read on Kuoame is he looks more like an 8 than a 6…and was insurance in case Oregel didn’t step up. Unless something clicks for him in June I doubt his loan will persist….especially if we sign KDB

Inside Info. - One reason both Guti and Gutman named to Team of the week is their last names. (“Gut” is German for good.)- just another one

If Guti gets sold it will be a terrible career move for him. Not sure why you think riding the pine at some club in Europe and returning to the States in 3 years would be good for him.

It is not 'my view', it is generally viewed as 'good for development' to play in competition above the level you are currently playing.
Most professional players 'dream of getting the call' to play in Europe...

Generally agree but my concern is that it is a little too soon. Unless he has achieved a certain amount of recognition, he could end up in a bad situation. LAST thing he needs is to sit on a bench, he needs playing time to develop. Just because he thinks he is ready for the Euro move does not mean he is.

I agree! Unfortunately if you are not ready/able to make the move by 22 or 23 the window closes fairly quickly. Not a lot of 27yr olds being signed in the top 5 leagues from the MLS...are there any?

Guti has shown aptitude that would make you think he can/will get there...maybe not.

Me personally, I'd love to see him stay here and grow into a HG DP Captain! How cool of a story that would be...

23 would be 2 years from now. I can easily see him able then.
If he goes too soon, chances of success are greatly reduced.
