Inter Messi 2025 might be the 1927 Yankees, but in 1939 or so.

    Ruth would 44
Gehrig would be 36 (and two years from passing away)
    Lazzeri would be 36
    Earl Combs would be 40

    OPTIMISM:
No team with Lionel Messi playing has EVER beat the Chicago Fire in MLS!

Lionel Messi has NEVER scored a goal or an assist against the Chicago Fire!
Not a single goal contribution in his career against the Fire.

Clearly, the Chicago Fire defense is BETTER than Lionel Messi!

    The Loser!

Note: he missed both matches in 2024 (2-1 loss and 4-1 loss) and the "Messi match" at Soldier Field in 2023 (4-1 Fire victory).

The Messi fandom walk of shame after the 2023 match alone was worth the price of admission.

The Fire have compiled 23 points in the 11 matches or 2.09 PPG in matches played since 7-15. Leader in Eastern Conference is now at 1.97 PPG.
If Fire can perform at this level for entire 2026 season ( as opposed to 1/3 of season),
they should be competing for top 1-2 spots.

With one game to go, still in the driver seat for a home play in game. Just need three draws and a Fire win for a bye. Still a lot to play for. Optimism!!!

Edit: sorry, Orlando has to lose one and draw/lose another. Nashville has to draw/lose. Who cares, Fire are in the post season since forever. Optimism!!!

I was trying to figure that out when I was writing about the possible scenarios, but I have not read an actual answer yet.

MLS' website has not posted the "here's what can happen" article yet.

I suspect we will see it in the next few days.

It's wins and then GD, so we would tie on wins and lose on GD, they are +16 we are +8. We need them to lose.

Xtomx, I know it's a pain in the butt, but do you think you could write up a pregame thread during the Bears game today. It would be much appreciated. tia

Thinks for the offer and compliment, but to be perfectly honest (and I actually mean this), I have never watched a Chicago Bears game in my entire life.

I have seen bits and pieces of games over the years, I have friends who are rabid Bears fans, so when I am in Chicago, I will go to the bar with them for the game, but, mostly for food and beer, but I would not be able to so. Other than crappy on the other city (and I don't know who the Bears are playing today without looking it up), I am not sure what I would write!
Edit: I looked it up and the Bears are playing New Orleans and I really, really like that weird Southern city, so I could not crap too much on New Orleans.

I have not watched an entire NFL game since I was about 10 years old.

I believe he meant the Fire one presumably so we have a thread to discuss the game already.

Yes please. An early Fire thread would be much appreciated. Would be good fun to discuss our "playoff bound" Fire ASAP.

I see. If I get to it this afternoon or tomorrow I will.

Considering I will be at a Conference in Michigan most of the week, I will have to do one in advance.
