I do not see them as comps. Shelton was not an outside back, wasn't particularly good at it, and at no point, including during the weird 2021 Gold Cup, was in a US nats camp.
i've always liked the way Vines plays. I admit, he's probably too expensive, but we have a budget we are not using in 2026. So why not take him in until December?
IMO, we're really bad at outside back and our players are not going to improve. Maybe Bassong gets healthy and is a great LB. He wasn't last year, but who knows.

He (Bassong) didn't play LB last year...

I just see no reason to waste money, especially if it includes spending GAM to bring him in. You prioritize using the expiring GAM on LBJ, Shapi, presumably Blorian and any they sign. Any that doesn't expire that you aren't planning to use, you stash for 2027, you don't use it to bring in Vines. Who is on a guaranteed contract through 2027, so it wouldn't just be through December. You pick him up, you're agreeing to that contract or you're spending money to buy him out again in 2027.

Good points. I thought he had to be out of contract in December. Two years is not worth it, even in my book.
I would love to get outside back upgrades. Maybe James and Bassong will work out. Jame can defend and has good speed, and the lungs of a youngster. Could work, and if it keeps him out of the center I think that's a safer place to develop

I thought he was on an option or something for 2027 too and thought he'd be a good idea when it initially happened. The fact he's through 2027 turned me when I found it.

Along the same lines, any word on Borges? Kind of weird that was announced as eminent well over a week ago followed by crickets.

He was back in Norway finalizing last I heard. This weekend seems unlikely.

Always take outside reports, especially those from foreign media, regarding the eminence of announcements with a grain of salt.

Yeah, I guess I had it in my head that Ben Jacobs was one of the more reliable reporters, but now that I'm digging he's a little more of a mixed bag.

Sorry, thought you were talking about the reports out of Hungary that it'd be announced last week. Ben is for the most part trustworthy, but his reporting definition of it being done and it actually being done to the point SKC will announce it are different levels.

Capito has serious speed and, according to an German agent and commentator, who a page ago or so I quoted as having said he had "doubts about Capita's suitability for Schalke to the regional newspaper: He's one of the better players in the Ekstraklasa. But I have my doubts as to whether that's enough for the 2. Bundesliga."

Uhm: "The prospect of moving to the US is tempting, even if MLS is a weaker league, and Sporting Kansas City went to considerable lengths to convince him to make the move."

Weaker league? than the Polish Elek? I don't think so.

Also, interesting: "According to advanced data from Hudl StatsBomb, Capita is the league's leading winger in terms of successful dribbles, shots, and expected goals this season. He's also the fastest player in the Ekstraklasa, regularly breaking the 35 km/h barrier."

Okay, so Buzz in the report you're using his real name. Do we use that or Capita?

what germany does in the second division is incredible and should be the model for most leagues worldwide. it's most notable in the 2.bund, but I think my comment goes for basically their whole league structure. that said, some of the clubs that are mired down there to create those massive attendance numbers have no business being down there, and it borders on a disgrace.

Yeah, I live in Berlin. This is quite obvious here, with Hertha (occupants of Olympic Stadiium, the primary national stadium) mired in the 2Bl. Herta fans lovingly call their club "scheisse Hertha." Clubs here hand out lots and lots of team stickers, and kids grab armloads and stick them to light posts, trash cans, bus stops, etc. From a park bench this week (yeah, I'm old), watched a woman, quite angrily, moving from surface to surface peeling off hertha stickers.

After watching Capita's highlights, he's going to give Shapi a run for most one footed player.

But he has serious speed, which can make him seem more of a 1.5 footed player. I mean, a 10.3 100m speed is tough to beat in soccer (and he's quick as they come in his first steps. too).

Absolutely. Speed is lethal. Gerso is our most recent extremely fast extremely one footed player and he was decent for SKC.

My comment was just based on his highlight reels. There were many obvious "better to hit that with your left" moments where he chose the outside of his right.

My favorite part of the Capemba rumor may not even be Capemba at this point. Their coach is crazy...

Got suspended for 5 games after their derby. Then after their game yesterday he got into a physical altercation with a councilman...

There's something to be said about the professionalism of MLS. Many players have referenced the relative piece of mind when they come to the US regarding training facilities, safety, and knowing they are going to get paid with a check that won't bounce. I can't see a situation in MLS where this type of crazy coaching behavior would be tolerated.

    100%

He was removed as coach yesterday after this incident fwiw. But as I dug in more he has a very checkered past.
