was the pool that terrible? I know that’s not the most favorable place, but I didn’t expect their hire to be a middle school coach.
Good coaches can be found everywhere, especially if they're not the type that lets their ego tell them they're too good for an opportunity to impact players at the U12/U14 level.
I understand a person wondering about the applicant pool for a D1 job that came from a middle school program....certainly not the norm. However, not that I fall into the category of a "good coach", but this past year I stepped in and coached a second team of primarily 8th graders, after the original coach was fired. Relatively speaking, it may have been the worst "soccer" team I've coached over the course of a long club and college coaching career. However, they were awesome kids who wanted to get better - and it was a great experience. When we were getting beaten by 6,7 or more goals in some games, I thought "I've coached against Duke, Auburn and Texas - and I'm coaching a second team of 8th graders and losing by 9 goals right now"......once I finally threw my monumentally sized ego in the trash, I was able to embrace the idea that "coaching is coaching" regardless of the level. Yes, of course there are nuances and the margin of error becomes smaller and smaller the higher the level you go. Simply because you are a successful coach of 6th graders doesn't mean you could be coaching the University of North Carolina. To the point of the previous poster however, simply because you are coaching younger teams, or lower levels, also doesn't mean that you can't coach at a higher level. Plus, I'm sure the applicant pool was weak
There may be a number of things going on with this hire, whether or not it is a good hire. One is that UAPB may be the poorest DI team (#350 out of #350 in the 2025 NCAA RPI rankings). Another is that it may not be clear that UAPB will continue to have women's soccer, maybe it is considering going the way of fellow SWAC member Mississippi Valley (I have no knowledge on this, only am looking at how weak it has been and at what MVSU did). Who would apply for the job in that scenario?
Would love for someone who is much smarter than I am to rank the 350 teams from Richest to Poorest. Cpthomas or Chris Henderson?
Henderson has posted some public school financial information in the past. Not private school. It’s good to gather all of the publicly accessible info into one place, but it still doesn’t help with private school info. You can obtain little bits and pieces of private school salary info on tax form 990 which is public info but often times it’s not there. Henderson is going to update it in July. includes operating budget, coach HC salary and compensation. Does not include specific staff comp but you can get a general idea of budgets for public schools. Getting private school info is the thing that still escapes most. So it’s not complete.

Grambling - Chris Logan (Minot State head ?/??-6/9)
With all Division 1 head coach positions now filled, here are some final numbers for this year (that is, final unless additional positions come open). If my numbers are a little different than some others' numbers, it only has to do with differences in the years to which we assign coaching changes.
Wow to Chris Logan going to Grambling! I think Chris might find the winters in Grambling a little more to his liking than they are in North Dakota. Good luck to him!
Was the pool that terrible? I know HBCUs aren't the most favorable places, but I didn’t expect they'd hire a youth club's goalie coach who failed as a D2 head coach so quickly he didn't even renew his first lease (then did the same in Denver). Can't wait to see who Grambling hires in the summer of 2027. Any early candidates for Colorado Rapids Youth Goalkeeper Coach?
Finishing 4th in the conference is failing? They finished 6th the year before with a different coach. Do some research first.
First of all, yes, that's the joke. Notice the almost verbatim recreation of earlier posts and how quickly you jumped on here to glaze someone with a career losing record and list his second-to-last job instead of his most recent one to make him look better. As for Minot State, they went from 11 wins and the conference tournament finals in 2024 to 9 wins and a first round exit in 2025.. but please, keep talking about their seeding, as if it matters. Actually, if it mattered, that makes the early exit worse! *cue the Semi-Pro fourth place celebration* It's all jokes though, so try not to take it so seriously. "Do some research."
For an HBCU this looks like a decent hire. Although surprising seeing someone go all the way from North Dakota to Louisiana. As for the earlier post about Marshall I’m not too sure that is accurate. From what I’m hearing the coach is settled and ready for a new season.
What does "for an HBCU" mean? You think the applicant pool was so bad that this guy was the best they could find? It's a terrible fit. On top of the obvious culture mismatch, he hasn't shown he can win. At best, this guy comes in, piggybacks on a successful program (won conference twice in the last 3 years), and rehabs his "career" so he can leave for a "better" job. This guy is a tourist, a carpetbagger.. if this was a movie, there'd be a trope for this BS. He'll leave right after the 2027 season. The team has shown they can win without him. Unless he completely sh*ts the bed, we'll see them continue to win in spite of him.
Dude, you didn’t get the job. It’s okay. December will bring more openings. Keep that résumé warm, keep those hopes alive, and maybe your moment is coming. The Bethesda Christian middle school head job is open? You should got for it, we're rooting for you!
