there’s a concerted effort around the SUU program to promote the assistant. From my interactions he’s part of the problem, but since KE left for an assistant job they’ve been able to save face. They’re in between ADs right now, so not sure what the plan is, but if I were betting it would be on the assistant promoted at minimum on an interim basis.

as for coastal, the job literally just became open. I think the reason for the “delay” is this isn’t a job that will be open to the masses. They’ll enlist folks to procure a curated list of possible candidates and work through them.

Where did he go to be an assistant?

Would not surprise me if they just moved associate head to interim or event promote straight away!

They are paying the previous coach so certainly the assistant keeping the job for now is a strong possibility. Former coach now at San Diego State.

Why was there so little made of Kai going to San Diego State? SDSU didn't even mention it themselves. Weird to me

Several ways to look at it:
    • Paperwork still being done
    • Staff has other priorities, will get to it when they get to it
    • It’s not that big of a deal
    • Etc.
Let’s not act like this is a new thing that an assistant doesn’t get the red carpet rolled out for them at a place like San Diego State.

I would say its not a good hire at all. He was awful in NAIA at Indiana Weslyan as a head coach. The coach before him was successful there and the coach after him was successful there.

Crossroads league being one of the stronger conferences in the NAIA year on year so it was a steady record and Strader has managed to do well since in how he has grown in the D1 ranks. Although I will say that 'National Christian College Athletic Association national runner-up finish in 2017' is nothing to really mention. Mean's they weren't good enough to make the NAIA National Tournament and the standard of this tournament is very low.

Are we really debating this hire but hardly blink an eye whey Stuart Gore gets the Montana job after having three consecutive losing season.

Or we just accept the fact that some coaches do well with some teams and maybe not so well with other, still good coaches. You can be a good D2 coach and struggle at D1 or vice versa. You can win in one place and maybe not the other, then get another job and be successful and that is all part of coaching.

One season or one bad run with a team does not define a coach.

I think the same negativity was label at the Montana and Sac State hire. Some jobs are bad jobs, some jobs are bad because of the administration. I agree on it not defining a coach. Coaching isn't like a boxing record where 1 defeat sets your career back.

I can see Southern Utah just hiring the assistant as his wife is the Volleyball assistant. But really outside of Coastal there not desirable jobs.

I know it's DII - but any word on Bentley's search? It's been silent and the job was only posted for a couple of days in December. It's getting late in the hiring season.

    Why did Sarah Dacey resign?

As for it being "late in the hiring season", I definitely think it is from the DI perspective but maybe not for DII. I was hired for one DII job at the end of April and another one during the summer.

Don't know Bentley situation but hiring cycle clearly not the same at every level. Some ADs will start to think they can save money by leaving the position open until summer! Plenty of Asst coaches have spent weeks and even months thinking they are a candidate and could or will get the job, then...
