I think we can move onto the Fall at this point. Who do we have that is hot? Arizona- still hasn’t come anywhere close to Amato’s tenure Syracuse- sounds like it is time who are the contenders this year?
UNLV is warming up. Only one recent MWC tournament appearance in almost a decade and just hovering above .500 each year.
Too early to have K-State here? A questionable exit from Wyoming leads me to believe that “things” will be amplified and not so easy to be swept under the rug..
definitely not on a hot seat yet as its year one but its going to be a rough year for the wildcats. All their top players transferred out. they havent come close to replacing them with their additions
I think you pretty much nailed these. Would expect Mizzou needs a massive year to keep her job Really interested to see how A&M works out. I think that seat is blazing. They also lost a lot of their top players when Phil "retired" I think Syracuse is safe - she still has several years on her contract. signed a really long contract Iowa State and Florida could both see changes if they don't have massive improvements. I say more pressure on Florida to at least get SEC tournament or it will open. Not sure Iowa State really cares. Some smaller schools that could be hot are UMKC and Tulsa. Could also see UNT opening soon. Not because of JH getting fired but he's got to be close to retirement.
While coaching changes are always tough and have averaged 49 a year over the past 4 years which is to many some additional ones not mentioned above we could see if the coming year doesn't go well are Michigan, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, LSU with the last two have huge exodus of players in the transfer portal.
What type of coach could the Mizzou job attract? SEC is an excellent conference but that job seems to be the least appealing in the SEC also. A&M Coach G is in the final year of his contract and there are thoughts that is the main reason he's still the head coach. AD doesn't want to pay a buyout to any other coaches while they're still paying off the football coach buyout. What type of coach could A&M attract after G "retires" at the end of the season? This seems like a top 10 in the country job and should have lots of interest. Is this a mid-major jumping to high major or a high major assistant coach stepping up to high major head coach. Or is it a pluck any coach you want from wherever you want type job? UNT has been consistent in getting to the conference championship game and/or NCAA tournament across several conference they've been in over the years. Hedlund has done a good job there. It's arguably UNT's best athletic program. Are there any candidates that could fit here?
A&M will be able to attract a lot of big time coaches. I would think they can get other Power 4 head coaches to take that job. Just the camp market alone is a reason to go there
Any idea when the UNLV contract is up? Or what expectations there are? I got no idea about that program. Kansas State will likely be hot in a couple years. She was a disaster at James Madison and as bad as Dibinni was they managed to outdo themselves with this hire. Mizzou- Golan has been pretty successful as a head coach at other programs u gotta wonder what is going on. Her army teams were a tough nut to crack back in the day. Florida- they have the self proclaimed best assistant in the world waiting in the wings to take over lol give the dude the job. Iowa State- how long does he have left on the contract? From my understanding there is no hear at Cinci- I think someone mentioned them but I’m hearing from someone in the program everything is fine. staying in the buckeye state- any word on Akron?
And I’d also say that TCU and a few SEC schools should have this Aggie staff on payroll for the amount of talent they’ve had transfer to their programs
Wildcatter, do you know how may years are left on Syracuse contract? Can't believe I am saying this, but may agree with you that she may be safe. No way should that be possible. 3-48-5 in the ACC since she arrived. Has made a terrible program even worse somehow. No signs of improvement either as they went 0-9-1 in 2023 and then in 2024...went 0-9-1 again. Would think she would have been let go after 2023 but stayed for 2024 and no chatter of any movement. 3 conference wins in 6 years; I don't know if there is any P4 team that has had that bad a 6-year record (if there is please share). Historically awful. But maybe the folks ate Syracuse don't care and have just accepted that women's soccer will always suck there so just pay someone to field a team and take lumps. Concentrate on other sports that can win and just keep the team for Title IX. NC State and Miami will improve with new hires so don't see any chance of Syracuse catching anyone above them and would project they will go winless in the ACC for third year in a row.
I don't remember the exact year but when I heard it I was a little stunned. let's just say her contract isn't up anytime soon and Syracuse definitely isn't buying it out. She probably has more years left on her contract than Kansas State just got on hers
When they hired her from Rice she was a very successful coach. Syracuse was not a good Power 4 job. So based on what you are saying, I would be willing to bet that she leveraged a long contract to lure her from Rice to try to fix that program. Let's be real though. It is a really tough job in the ACC.
ACC is hard to make strides and sustain. Syracuse is what's been said. Miami hasn't been to NCAA since 2012 so improvement can only happen. NC State down 2023-24 but sustained success from 2016-22 (went to 3 Sweet 16!) won't happen again. Louisville is also a stuck program. Pitt was 11th in ACC in 2024 and missed NCAA already after two up seasons. Will SMU be here too? NC State 7-season stretch is the outlier for this group but, again, ACC is hard to make strides and sustain.
No question Syracuse is a tough gig, perhaps the toughest P4 job out there. But at least show some signs of life. Could have said the same thing about Pitt a few years ago. Looks like Syracuse won 2-3 conference games a year before arriving, now it’s down to 0. As an ACC program can’t be losing to Niagara, Delaware, Cornell, UMass, etc. Non-conference scheduling is very light, must know that’s the only way they can pad some wins. At least be a level higher than a decent mid major and be in the top 100 RPI, which they are not. But if she has a long term contract then it pretty much just shows admin there doesn’t care and they’ll field a team just because they have to and ride it out.
It shouldn’t help her that the Syracuse men’s team won a national title recently, but it doesn’t seem to matter to admin that the women’s program can’t win a conference game
OPEN: Akron - Maggie Kuhn (Akron assistant; INTERIM) FILLED: n/a Updated to start the season, still maintaining the other as there are still two vac
If Arizona is on the hot seat, then Utah certainly should be. Hideki has really done very little since arriving. That said, guessing Utah might not care about being mid in soccer and in the shadow of BYU.
Very unfortunate for Jen she got screwed over. Great person who is a victim of the current collegiate climate.
I wasn’t present, but some of the reports aren’t so friendly that it is “unfortunate.” People can make that decision themselves, but some not great things about the internal comments are out there.
