I saw a little of North Korea's game against Brazil and the Norks had Brazil on their backheel. I heard the word "relentless" used to describe the Norks against Brazil. It seems strange but the Bad Korea has been a good women's soccer side for close to 20 years. It's going to be a very tough game; I won't be surprised if the US can't get by them. I also said a couple years ago I wouldn't be surprised if Kim Jong-Un came back in a few years with a transgender / transsexual team. He's the kind of creep who would do that. If we lose, it may have nothing to do with it — again, the Norks have somehow managed to be a good women's soccer nation despite being a failure by most other civilized measures. But neither should we simply ignore the possibility even if many will accuse us of sour grapes. Most of you kids (i.e. younger than 55 or 60) are too young to remember the suspicions around East Germany's swimmers in the Olympics ("East Germany? What's that?") when they were winning most of gold medals. America's premier swimmer at the time, Shirley Babashoff, failed to do better than bronze, but when she hinted that the East Germans were on steroids, she was labeled a loser, a whiner, and a poor sport. Of course, some 10 years later, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, it was revealed that's exactly what was going on, but it was too late for Babashoff who had long been erased from America's sports memory in embarrassment. If we lose, sweet transgenders from transsexual Trans-Korea probably won't be the reason and it's not the end of the world. Nether should we turn a blind eye to the possibility of it in the future, a future that won't affect the Megan Rapinoes of the liberal West..
thanks for that excellent summation, Laura Loomer LOL, but an better explanation for Korea’s success as well as Japan is that soccer is an highly popular TEEN sport in their respective countries , but then there’s no college nor pro ball for North Koreans, so they usually flop by the senior stage—-on the other hand, Japanese best youth players are allowed to travel outside their country & join the various pro clubs of the world, this is why they got continued success in the senior/adult world. Look at teen soccer to them just like Volleyball over here where among females it’s #1 participation sport in jr & high school, continues popularity in college but pretty much dies out after that do to an lack of professional clubs(unless you switch to beach volleyball) win or loose, the US has defied expectations; it’s best showing since 2016, if we win vs NK, than our best since 2012. I contribute this a lot to the high spending that the NWSL has done in this last year. The coach deserves credit too, I like his ideas of using both Gisele ‘ Sentnor as floaters(opposing defenders have had an hard time keeping up with them)
Reminder that US women's volleyball has won gold and silver at the last 2 Olympics. Top volleyballers go overseas to play pro.
Laura Loomer here , (LOL) — That's very interesting about the TEENS being allowed to play outside North Korea. I didn't know that and hadn't considered the possibility. Does that mean they're allowed to play for clubs in other countries or in youth academies outside Norkistan (in which case they wouldn't be quite the riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a mystery that they are — we'd know about some of their players) ? Or just that the team is allowed to play outside the borders of Norkidor? Even at the teen level it's a remarkable feat to do so well when the players train most of the year in such isolation outside of tournaments — unless individual players are allowed to play in clubs and academies in other countries. Especially considering the growth of the sport around the rest of the world the last 10-15 years. I mean, the Norks have been successful so isolation can work, but it's different now than 20 years ago when several other countries are starting to take it seriously. Look at how the US has struggled in U17 and U20 tournaments the last decade.
The US Soccer match preview is here - a nice walk down memory lane, if you have a moment. Note the early (aka odd) starting time for the US match today, 5:30 PM Eastern. https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...rld-cup-semifinal-game-notes-preview-schedule "The USA will play in the first semifinal on Sept. 18, kicking off at 5:30 p.m. ET (FS2 & Telemundo Digital) at what will surely be a steamy Estadio Pascual Guererro in Cali, Colombia, with Japan facing Netherlands at the same venue at 9 p.m. ET. This is the USA’s first trip to the semifinals of the U-20 WWC since 2016 -- a tournament that featured 16 teams instead of the 24 that contested this year’s competition -- where the Americans fell to North Korea, 2-1, in overtime." There's a lot more, including some video clips. Go USA!

sorry, I meant to say North Koreans DONT get to play outside their country much—-probably only to China, or as Laura Loomer’s boss would say ‘C-H-I-I-I-N-A
Wy just made the first major mistake I have seen her make this tournament. She was too far forward during a counter and got beaten by a finely hit chip. Fortunately the chip was slightly too high and hit the cross bar and the following player did not quite win the ball cleanly. In other words we got lucky. But I will take it.
It looks, from the current camera angle, like the attendance for this is tiny. I guess there could be people hiding in the shade but it sure looks near empty. The guards around the perimeter must feel VERY lonely. They seem to outnumber the fans.
1-0 Korea at 21 minutes. The commentator calls NK “ruthless” the way they been taking over this game US usually gets better as the game progresses, but I don’t know about this one
Dudley is lucky she does not get a cad, potentially red, for a very clumsy had tackle from behind. No I was about a minute faster. You need to work on your speed to get it up to international levels.
The USA is simply failing to play defense at the level needed for this match. PRK, right now, is making us look like a second tear rec team. Athleticism will NOT win this one for the USA.
Announcer mentioned that DPR coach has the players for 3 months at a time. I'm sure you can build some good team chemistry in that time.
Maybe not defensively, but I think they have an advantage on the offensive end. USA's problem, though, is they've been limited going forward. USA youth teams should schedule more scrimmages against ball control teams like Spain and Japan.
But we have something like 8 pro players. I am thinking we really need to change our youth development methods. you do not really need 3 months to develop a team but, if the players simply are not skillful, like a lot of the uSA's defense, then it takes 2-3 months to get them that way. I suspect the PKR's players start more skillful that ours at the younger ages. Now Dudely gets her yellow. She is lucky as if the ref was not gutless she would have her second by now.
I agree that USA needs to change their development method, but that won't happen with the current ECNL vs ECRL systems. I can only see improvement coming from the NWSL clubs starting youth clubs and scouting, training elite younger players in a pro environment.
Dudley is making lazy challenges, she looks tired. Maybe time to take her out before she gets a 2nd yellow.
Actually Dudly REALLY should be gone. She just ran over a PRK player and was not called. She may be a strength but her lack of control is going to cost the uSA a lot if she does not get herself under control. She reminds me of a female Romelu Lukaku. That is she is good but lazy in recovery and very physical.
