Japan new kits Japan WNT Yui Hasegawa commented, "The colors are fresh and haven't been seen in recent Japan national team kits. The design theme this time is a blazing flame, and for me, so it really gets me pumped." pic.twitter.com/X0QE5qmq8T— Wo So JAPAN (@WoSoJAPAN) June 21, 2024
We'd need a thread with the kits of all of the teams, as with the World Cup. Although the teams are way less.
Germany 🇩🇪 has also announced its Olympic team. How strong do you think the squad is? pic.twitter.com/X1IBnM2hwn— Soccerdonna (@soccerdonna) July 3, 2024
I see a sub-forum has been opened for 2024 Olympic Tournament, with sub-threads for each group and for referee assignements. I guess it's very good that we have that sub-forum, but now wouldn't it make sense that this thread is moved there (as a sort of: "Olympic Tournament 2024 - General Discussion")? Not sure if there are enough mods around, these days, to consider my suggestion, though...
Agreed. I think we need to ask the mods to move all 5 threads into the 2024 Women’s Olympics subforum. I know that @soccernutter will not be available this year, as he was in previous years. Perhaps @dark knight, @Bonnie Lass, or @bungadiri can help out? Thanks!
I won't? I won't be as involved as I have been with the WC tournaments for real life issues, but I will be around.
As per Herve Renard's press conference today, it looks like injured players that will be replaced by a reserve will be able to come back later in the tournament. https://www.fff.fr/article/12847-herve-renard-toujours-difficile-de-trancher-.html
A bit more clarity on the rule change regarding alternates from Emma Hayes (in literally the first question at the US joint men's and women's Olympic soccer press conference): "The reality with alternates is that if there is a temporary injury to a player on the roster within the A team that as long as we give 6 hours notice, we're able to make a temporary change and we can then change that for a following game. So from my perspective, nothing changes. Maybe gives us a little bit more flexibility." I'm kind of wondering how far in advance of the roster deadline teams were told of this change. Also they could just increase the roster size permanently, and we wouldn't have to keep changing the roster rules.
I think someone saw my tweet and decided to ask Emma Hayes straightaway about the subject. The IOC is notoriously annoying about the 18 players rule and have been for years unfortunately.
So Charli Grant, Courtney Nevin, Lydia Williams and Sharn Freier are no longer reserves and are in the Olympic squad?? pic.twitter.com/NYmmh0DG0X— Laura (@awfclaurab) July 9, 2024
I believe that take is incorrect, I am waiting for FIFA to update the Olympics regulations, but for me it is only in case of injuries as mentioned by Herve Renard and Emma Hayes.
All 12 squads have been announced now, correct? Have any of the WoSo journos done the typical analysis for average age, most represented league/club, etc.?
They re-tweeted the above deleted tweet, but the link to the FIFA media about the late athlete replacement change is still going to something that requires a log-in to an account. The late athlete replacement LAR policy has been amended for the upcoming Olympic Football Tournaments #Paris2024. Visit the FIFA Media Hub for further information➡️https://t.co/525naV4mxW pic.twitter.com/VsdnFYwk21— FIFA Media (@fifamedia) July 16, 2024 Does anyone here have access to the actual document? I'd love to see the wording of the rule change.
NWSL comes in with their own numbers here: https://www.nwslsoccer.com/news/a-r...-olympic-gold-as-2024-games-kick-off-in-paris 56 total players (47 on 18s and 9 alternates) for 20%* of the total tournament, the most of any league, though they don't say if that 20% is just on 18s or 18s+alts *the associated FB post says 20%, while the press release itself says "nearly a quarter" 11 countries represented with NWSL players, i.e. only one team in the tournament (ESP) has no NWSL rep - but this is a bit of a stretch as the lone COL and JPN players (Santos and Tanaka, respectively) haven't actually reported to their upcoming NWSL teams yet, which presumably also means that 56 is stretched a bit (e.g. CAN's Grosso). I still expect that's probably the most of any league even you count players with their previous clubs instead, though, right?
There you go: "Following a study of the late athlete replacement (LAR) policy in place for football and other team sports at the forthcoming Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee has decided to amend the policy. The LAR policy for the upcoming Olympic Football Tournaments Paris 2024 will therefore be as follows: Ap-accredited athletes (i.e. alternate players assigned numbers 19 to 22 on FIFA’s final list of players) may replace Aa-accredited athletes (i.e. players assigned numbers 1 to 18 on FIFA’s final list of players) for medical reasons, subject to certification of these reasons by the team doctor and approval by the FIFA Tournament Medical Lead. The replaced player may in turn return to the team to replace an Aa-accredited athlete once their medical condition allows it (it should be noted that the number of Aa accreditations may not at any time exceed 18). In such cases, the replaced Aa-accredited athlete will become an Ap-accredited athlete. Such a replacement must be submitted online through the e-LAR system to Paris 2024 by the chef de mission of your National Olympic Committee (NOC), or another official NOC representative authorized to do so through the IOC LAR policy, at the latest six hours prior to the match for which the team wishes to make the replacement. In light of the updated LAR policy, FIFA Medical may confirm a player’s incapacity to play in a match due to a mild medical condition that will affect the player’s physical or mental health in the short term only, but this must always be based on the team doctor’s clinical assessment and diagnosis. Can a replacement player come from outside the 22 players on FIFA’s final list? Yes, before the deadline of 24 hours prior to the team’s first match, the proposed replacement player may come from FIFA’s provisional list (in which case, they must have appeared on the “longlist” submitted to Paris 2024 by your NOC. Which medical conditions justify LARs? Various conditions that affect a player’s health and well-being in the long or short term, and requiring various recovery periods, may be eligible. Can an Aa-accredited player be replaced by an Ap -accredited player because of a minor injury or mild illness? In principle, yes, since these conditions may affect player health and well-being. The team doctor will have to clinically assess the player and issue their findings and diagnosis as part of the medical report provided. Can an Aa-accredited player be replaced by an Ap- accredited player for mental health reasons? Mental health is a critical part of players’ overall health and well-being. Is a medical report from the team doctor required in order to request LARs? There should always be at least a short report with a brief history and outlining the symptoms and the doctor’s diagnosis and clinical reasoning Can the replaced player return to the team to replace any of the 18 Aa-accredited players once their medical condition allows it? Can this subsequent replacement only be made if the Aa-accredited player to be replaced by the returning player is injured, ill or subject to an anti- doping rule violation (ADRV)? Two scenarios are possible: 1. The replaced player (Ap) can return to the team and replace the athlete (Aa) that was used as a replacement (switch) for “fit to play’” reasons In this scenario only a medical report/certificate is not required. A confirmation of recovery from the team doctor is sufficient. 2. The replaced player (Ap) can be used as a replacement for any of the 18 Aa accredited players for reasons of injury, illness or ADRV. In this case a medical report/certificate needs to be submitted. Athletes being replaced for ADRV reasons can no longer compete and consequently used as replacements. By when must LAR requests be made and who should submit them? Such requests must be submitted by the chef de mission of the NOC (or another official NOC representative authorised) at the latest six hours prior to the match. The football tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics will be held from 24 July to 10 August 2024. The women’s tournament will commence on 25 July 2024 and conclude with the gold medal match at the Parc des Princes in Paris on 10 August 2024. The men’s competition will begin on 24 July 2024, while the gold medal match will take place on 9 August 2024, also at the Parc des Princes. " What I find interesting is there is a mental health replacement possible.
