Well, to my previous point, I don't think there's a chance in the world that players wouldn't react by going absolutely crazy--particularly where it is positioned in front of the benches. I think you get red, still. Particularly if it stands out as an incident in the match--either of escalation or isolation. Maybe, if you have a match like Argentina-Netherlands, you start doing what Mateu Lahoz did and reason that drawing a line between VC and really bad UB just isn't worth it. By no means excusing what happened there, but in a bonkers match I could see a result like you're suggesting (because we've seen it in such matches). But in a normal, run-of-the-mill cup final... yeah, I still think elite referees worldwide are saying "nope, that's still a red and everyone knows it."
https://proreferees.com/roster/pro2-referees/ Shawn Tehini and Lorenzo Hernandez have been promoted to PRO2.
I was flipping through games and saw a center referee Lukasz Jozefecki on a USL League One match with the Referee badge (not even Regional). Went and checked -- yep. Then I find out he's being mentored by Robert Sibiga through some quick sleuthing. Maybe something to do with that. Maybe not. But not often you see a GR referee on a PRO assignment, I guess.
These are not the only promotions. Da Silva is now confirmed as a BU1 referee (and Nickerson and Lebuis are BU1 ARs). There were two additional AR promitions (Fierro and Yinka-Kehinde). And I've also been told that Ricardo Montero is officially in BU2, but his name is not showing up on the page yet, which is a little weird.
Full replay of Sophia Smith trying to hide the ball under the Thorns bench, for which she got her second yellow.Suspended for the next match over shithousery, pending appeal. #BAONPDX #NWSL https://t.co/hckvuUMPUW pic.twitter.com/WksQks6rgg— Ryan Clarke (@RyanTClarke) June 9, 2024 Yes, they're doing this at the women's pro level and not a U9 girls match.
He moved from Poland, where he has worked over 600 D2, D3 games there. Not exactly a "grassroots referee" in that sense. His state wouldn't register him as Regional Referee. Yes, he is Polish and he is in touch with Sibiga, but that is not the reason he is getting looked at.
The best part of this is the grin on her face when she gets up from hiding the ball. I look forward to seeing what the appeal committee does.
As usual, in the comments, it's always the referee's fault for punishing players for their behaviors. The referee is always the bad guy.
It’s NWSL so they’ll probably say something like “She didn’t mean to! There was nothing malicious about it!”
Had a bit of a laugh at a USL-2 game I attended last Sunday. ALBION Colorado SC vs. Flatirons FC. Mid/late second half after the Flatirons keeper took another hard knock and needed the trainer the ref waited until he stood up and was ready to start play and called out "1, 2, 3 fouls on this player (pointing at the keeper). No more fouls on this player", and then restarted play with the free kick.
He was calling out ALBION's persistent infringement by fouling the Flatirons keeper. I had just not heard it shouted out in that way before and it made me chuckle.
I mean I do it. But if you've gotten to 3 and the 3rd needs treatment, I think it needs a yellow now, not on the next one.
That’s one too many imo. After the first one if it’s not dealt with the players will handle it themselves. YMMV
Did any of you, by any chance, watch the Thorns v Courage game on 6/8? That's the one with the ball under the bench. I am interested in what you all think about how Danielle Chesky managed that game. (I want to check my perception against those who have some expertise.)
5th minute of Louisville/Gotham today: because ESPN failed to employ anyone of basic competency on commentary today, viewers now assume that a player was cautioned for reacting to a whistle blown near her ear rather than for kicking the ball away well after the first whistle. Deeply unserious broadcast.
when AppleTv cut the deal my FuboTV became more obsolete . I had the two choices on my screen and went with Spain… lol
Interesting penalty in the USL Championship... guessing the offender thought it was a goalkick when it never went out in the first place. you will not see a funnier penalty call pic.twitter.com/z2yGaeSRIm— John Morrissey (@USLTactics) June 16, 2024
