Here's another bit you should be mad at. 4 of the 8 MLS teams that enter in the Round of 32 have ALREADY been given hosting rights (a MASSIVE competitive advantage historically). No draw. Given to them. https://t.co/rLZoqqm4bu— Mike Pendleton (@phat7deuce) March 1, 2024
Apparently we actually "qualified" to send our 1st team to USOC on merit! It's the top 8 finishers in the 2023 Supporter's Shield standings who did *not* qualify for CONCACAF (excluding Houston, who will defend their USOC title).
Glad the Quakes are in it. Good development opportunities for younger players and a chance for additional hardware. Let's win it!

USSoccer had a writeup on El Farolito. I didn’t know they won the Open Cup in the 90s! Plus, I thought El Farolito was in Redwood City — is there more than one in the SF Bay Area? https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...el-farolito-high-hopes-forged-in-former-glory
The athletic has a cute story of how/why sasha klejstan et al are playing for Des Moines https://theathletic.com/5387692/202...s-menace-open-cup/?source=user_shared_article Sacha Kljestan's return to the U.S. Open Cup: A chance meeting, lacrosse delays and a lot of fun
Monterey Bay FC is off to a decent start; they play the Oakland Roots at home this weekend. I wonder if the Quakes could beat Frank Yallop's men this year? That was pretty embarrassing last year.
There is no article at the link? 1993, apparently they were named Club Deportivo (CD) Mexico back then... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._Open_Cup_finals
Looks like they moved the article here? I can’t guarantee this is the same article… https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...s-el-farolito-a-bar-burritos-open-cup-glories
Right now (Tues Apr-16) the third round game Oakland Roots vs El Farolito can be streamed on USSoccer.com. Itt’s 1-1- but unfortunately, ELF got a red card. Too bad because they look better than the Quakes. - - - - edit - - - - Also sad that there’s hardly anyone in the stands at Hayward State.

We’re quite capable of losing to any of those teams. If I were Luchi I’d play my starters. It’s not like we should be expecting to need to save them for our MLS playoff run at this point.
I was present to witness the Open Cup chase end for the Quakes at Sacramento and then at Monterey the past two seasons. Doubtless, it will end in Hayward this season, with me again bearing witness to the carnage.
