Very smart, may turn out to be a waste of money, but they have to try to save the Senate. It's official: Democrats are going after Florida and Texas Senate seats. DSCC announces "a new multi-million dollar investment in television advertising for the Texas and Florida Senate races"Come as Tester race looks increasingly tough, though no sign anyone pulling out of MT— Burgess Everett (@burgessev) September 26, 2024
I don’t know if it’s a good idea for Harris to go to Texas or not, but Florida, sure. It might help her get a 50th senator, it might help her win Florida (as a hedge against disaster in the Blue Wall states), and it DEFINITELY will lead to Trump rage tweeting for a day or two.

The Daily Show had a great joke about Moreno’s comment about how he can’t understand why women over 50 care about abortion rights. “Yeah, women who can’t get pregnant shouldn’t worry about abortion. Only men who can’t get pregnant should worry about abortion!”
I am seeing a lot more ads and a lot more signs for her at least in Montgomery County. She is in a much better position that Mandela Barnes has ever been.
On X, somebody asked how Kari Lake trails in a poll by 11 while Trump leads by 3. 2016 was the first time that every state voted the same way for president and senator, and Maine was the only state that voted differently in 2020. Prior to 2016, more voters split their tickets. The last time this class of senators was up in a presidential year was in 2012, and plenty of people split their tickets. Here are the difference in margin between president and senator with a positive number meaning the state was more Democratic for senator and a * meaning that different parties won: DE: 18.8 (easy Democratic wins for both) FL: 12.1 (Democrat Bill Nelson won, and lost in 2018) IN: 16.0* (Republican incumbent Richard Lugar served 30 years and lost his primary to Richard Mourdock, who lost to Democrat Joe Donnelly, who lost in 2018) MA: -15.7 (Elizabeth Warren gained the seat from Republican incumbent Scott Brown) MI: 11.3 MN: 26.9 (Amy Klobuchar won by 34.6) MO: 25.2* (Todd Akin's "legitimate rape" comment guaranteed he would lose to Claire McCaskill, who lost in 2018, and now makes a podcast about how to win this year) MT: 17.3* (Jon Tester) NY: 16.4 (Kirsten Gillibrand won her first full term by 44.6 after she was appointed in 2009 to replace Hillary Clinton, and Gillibrand won a special election in 2010) ND: 20.5* (Democrat Heidi Heitkamp won, and lost in 2018) TN: 14.1 WV: 50.9* (Joe Manchin) WY: -13.2 Those are 13 states with double-digit differences, including five that voted differently for president and senator.
Some good news for Baldwin U.S. Sen. @tammybaldwin wins the endorsement of the Farm Bureau Federation, becoming the first statewide Democrat to win an endorsement from the state's largest general farm organization in the state in more than 20 years. The Farm Bureau picked her over Republican @EricHovde— Scott Bauer (@sbauerAP) October 2, 2024
400 seems like a small number for a poll. Nebraska Senate Polling:Osborn (I): 47%Fischer (R): 42%Bullfinch / Oct 1, 2024 / n=400— Polling USA (@USA_Polling) October 2, 2024
Let’s be nice to Nebraska. It gave us our VP candidate, possibly our 270th electoral vote, and maybe even our 51st senator!
Hung Cao makes a disgusting claim that the military doesn't "want" LGBTQ+-friendly people. #VASen "That's not the people we want. Like, what, what we need is alpha males and alpha females who are gonna rip out their own guts, eat them..."pic.twitter.com/ScA717q0WA— Kelsie Taggart (@kelsientaggart) October 2, 2024 So, we know that every accusation is a confession. Are Republicans eating people's dogs? If eating their own innards is an ideal, then it stands to reason...
That dude is truly weird…… sound like a psycho. Anyway, he got his 5 Minutes of fame and will go back to obscurity by next month.
New NEBRASKA SENATE poll: 🔴 Sen. Deb Fischer* — 42 percent🟡 Dan Osborn — 47 percentUndecided — 10 percentVoter registration breakdown — GOP (49%); Democratic (26%), Independent (25%) https://t.co/htVcKqOm6q— Anthony Adragna (@AnthonyAdragna) October 2, 2024
Unless there's some sort of scandal with Deb Fischer that I'm not aware of, it's wild that this is even close. Like most other Republican senators from the Plains, there doesn't seem to be anything notable about her.
I have to say that Hung Cao seems to be an example of a guy who started off as very conservative but not-insane, twisting himself into knots trying to be what GOP primary voters want in the age of Trump. That explains at least some of this weirdness--it's not natural. I saw an early debate appearance when he was running against Jennifer Wexton for the VA-10 congressional district. There was a gaping disconnect between his life story & experience versus the Trumpian talking points he kept awkwardly trying to shoehorn into the conversation. In 2004, he would have been a formidable GOP candidate--and likely coming across a lot more normal as well.
At this point, it's likely he's truly converted. But I suspect there are moments where his new identity clashes with remnants of who he used to be. I remember him sharing the (virtual) stage with Wexton at a "listening session" hosted by the local mosque* here, and was struck by how calm and reasonable he was--and how unconvincing he was when regurgitating MAGA talking points--which, again, he would try to shoehorn into the conversation completely out of context. He didn't seem to quite believe what he was saying. Or maybe it's better to say that those beliefs had nothing to do with why he was running. I'll say again what I said at the time--he seemed like a candidate from Dubya's GOP who would have been much more comfortable running in 2004 as a patriotic immigrant devoted to service and national security. From what I saw, there was nothing in his Bio or demeanor that made him a natural fit for culture-war politics or MAGA grievance-politics. Clearly, he's made his choice and this is who he is now--that was over two years ago, when he was still brand new to politics--but I suspect that unlike somebody like Madison Cawthorne or MTG, he could have been a more 'normal' conservative Republican in a different environment. I guess what I'm saying is--MAGA attracts a lot of talentless weirdos, but it also forces a lot of basically competent conservatives to dumb themselves down in order to keep in the good graces of the base; and doing so turns them in to people who end up saying--and trying to believe--weird things that they would have rolled their eyes at a few years ago. *The Dar Alnoor Islamic Community Center is more than a mosque--it also serves as a civic and community center for a lot of activities in this part of Prince William County. The local Muslim community host quite a few events, particularly for local political events.
Ooooooopppps.....Blackface...... Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) “wore blackface as part of a Halloween costume when he was a college student almost two decades ago,” the New York Timesreports. “The images, taken around October 2006, show a 20-year-old Mr. Lawler at a campus social gathering dressed as Michael Jackson. He is wearing a black shirt and a red jacket and, in one photo, is striking a signature Jackson dance pose. His face has also been visibly darkened.” “The images may come into play in Mr. Lawler’s fight for re-election this fall against Mondaire Jones, a Black former congressman, in a suburban swing seat.”
1) Had no idea he was that young. 2) I started college in 2008. The frats had some pretty offensive mixer themes, but everyone knew not to wear ********ing blackface.
Yeah, I'm considerably older, but my God, blackface??? It's not so much knowing not to do it, but, I mean, it wasn't something that ever came up as an option. WTF?
The ********er is running against a .....Black dude, former Dem congressman, Mondaire Jones. That is going to resonate well in the campaign trial in NY....
