TPM has a blurb that CNN is about to drop a bombshell story about Mark Robinson. Like, drop out of the race big. If you google the name, the top links are to various news outlets reporting that this story is coming. Today is the last day Robinson can drop out of the race and be replaced, apparently. Ballots have already been printed; I think this weekend starts absentee voting. Stay tuned.
Wrong thread. But Dapip posted this in the Presidential race thread 2 hours ago and I posted it in the non-House/Senate race thread 50 minutes ago.
The state implications of the story aren't that big because he was going to lose by 10 points anyway. The electoral college implications of NC being non-competitive could be huge though.
NC and Georgia have the same number of EVs, so this news matters in part because for whatever reason, Harris isn’t doing as well in Georgia as I would have expected. Harris gets a bit more cushion.
No fvcking way! Come on Texas, save the Senate for us. More polling like this may force me to send a little money to Allred. #NEW Texas Senate General Election Poll🔵 Allred 45% (+1) 🔴 Cruz (Inc) 44%@MorningConsult---— Political Polls (@PpollingNumbers) September 19, 2024

Sheesh. Maryland's Alsobrooks seems to have claimed the homestead exemption (meant to lower property taxes on one's primary residence) for a rental property. And she claimed a senior discount for property she inherited from her parents. https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/22/politics/angela-alsobrooks-improper-tax-deductions/index.html If I were running for office in this day and age, I'd hire someone to make sure my own house was in order. I mean, the homestead exemption is one of the ways we can find out where someone actually lives. F*cking that up is one of the things that undid Hershell Walker. Now, the party of incompetent government doesn't care about such things, but I do. And this is just stupidly embarrassing.
Just saw this....That is criminally stupid and in normal times could easily cost her the election. I have been an early supporter of her but she has been unimpressive to say the least.
She is lucky she is running against Hogan for senate instead of Governor. I think Kamala's coat tails can carry her to victory, but she needs a few people to come in and tidy up the ship.
Hadn't realized that Delaware is poised to elect America's first transgender Representative. And she's young, too, only 34 years old! Sarah McBride, current state senator, rolled the Democratic primary field with 80% of the vote. A nice milestone in American politics when it comes to pass.
Bernie Moreno, Ohio. https://www.washingtonpost.com/elections/2024/09/24/bernie-moreno-suburban-women-abortion/ Moreno, who is running against Sen. Sherrod Brown (D) in one of the most competitive Senate contests this fall, reportedly said at a recent campaign event that “a lot of suburban women” are singularly focused on abortion and that “it’s a little crazy.” He also said he does not think abortion is an issue for women who are older than 50. ... “You know, the left has a lot of single-issue voters,” Moreno said in video published by the TV outlet. “Sadly, by the way, there’s a lot of suburban women, a lot of suburban women that are like, ‘Listen, abortion is it. If I can’t have an abortion in this country whenever I want, I will vote for anybody else.’ … Okay. It’s a little crazy, by the way, but — especially for women that are, like, past 50 — I’m thinking to myself, ‘I don’t think that’s an issue for you.’” I think it was a Longwell focus group who had people on there saying they liked Moreno because he was a business guy. Some of them were women. Wonder how this will play with them.
Boy. This is rich. Pretty much every MAGA in my town is freaked out by one thing, and one thing only: immigration. AKA people of color.
In the long shot category. He is an independent, that would most likely, but not always side with Democrats. NEW U.S. Senate Nebraska poll from Survey USA (A+)⬜ Dan Osborn 45% (+1)🟥 Deb Fischer 44%— Garrett Herrin (@GarrettHerrin) September 25, 2024
That could be very good news if it’s correct that Osborn will caucus with Democrats, but what is this based upon?
There are stories that blue dog Democrats wanted to endorse him, but he refused. All just speculation, he could very well side with Republicans, he could very well be the swing vote in the Senate, both parties will try to get him on their side for sure. But just like 2 years ago in Utah, the independent is a better option than the Republican.
https://www.politico.com/news/2024/04/13/dan-osborn-independent-senate-nebraska-00151967 He's said he would prefer to create an independent caucus. But, like... ...this man is a Democrat. Just don't tell anyone in Nebraska.
Maryland seems to be on the right track and not buying whatever Hogan is selling. A new Washington Post-University of Maryland poll finds Angela Alsobrooks (D) leads Larry Hogan (R) in the U.S. Senate race by 11 percentage points among likely voters, 51% to 40%
