The times of the matches don't look impossible for Europe. :) Or am I having it wrong? :cautious:

Indeed kick-offs at 22:00 and 01:00 don't look too bad from Europe, considering the tourney is on the other side of the pond.

I "accidentally" posted this in the wrong thread so I am reposting here in, I hope, the correct forum.

I am a little disappointed that there is not more activity here about this tournament. But I assume that will pick up later. I have been ill and unable to watch, before today, more than just a little so far. But I am able, I think, to watch more starting today.
The first thing I wish to say is that I am VERY impressed by the Zambian 'keeper. She is more "in control" in her box that most U17s I have seen. She has the presence of a much older 'keeper.
I also love the Zambian names. They have Mercy, Gift, Blessing, Precious and Loveness on their roster and I think some of the other names are similar but in local languages or dialects.
Zambia, right now, is keeping the match very interesting and holding Brazil to only one goal and they have looked dangerous on several occasions.

Since I cannot be up and around much I will go back and watch some of the earlier matches and "catch up" fairly soon.

I do not know these young teams very well at all and I would apricate any incites others might have.

Have fun and I really am getting better, for those that care.

BTW: I am also impressed by Brazil's play. They don't have the final third play mastered, yet, but they do seem in control most of the time and, so far, Zambia has not had a good shot on goal.

Not sure if this kind of names are common in all Sub-Saharian Africa, but they're sure popular in Nigeria too: their squads (including the one at this U-17 WWC) always have some names like Peace, Blessing, Glory. It extends to other sports (for instance Nigerian sprinter Mercy Nku, who was active in the early 2000s).

I have to say, though, that the most peculiar Nigerian name I ever found was actually a girl I've known in my private life, whose name was Happiness. :giggle:

Spain "may" not win this tournament but, I think, there are no other teams in the tournament with the skill to win against them but, in soccer, anything, well almost anything, can happen. Really I think Spain could be beaten if they beat themselves. I like the way virtually all Spain teams (men or women) at any age group plays now. Spain, for a long time, played possession at all costs and that was boring. Now they are using possession as a platform to produce surprise attacks and it is working most of the time.
I have to admit that Spain is rapidly becoming my second favorite nation to watch and they could become my number one if I spoke Spanish better. I like picking up some sideline chatter and with Spain their Spanish is just, usually, too quick for me.
Spain is leading 3-0 against Korea and Korea is actually playing pretty well.
Now watch, with the usual praise jinx they will probably collapse and lose all the rest of their matches. I have caused such happenings in the past. But they are now up 4-0 (penalty conversion) and do not look like they are winding down at all.
This makes the USA performance in the first match MUCH more impressive. :)

Well I just finished watching a horrid match. The USA and Colombia stumbled to a 2-0 USA win and the coaching on booth sides was well sub par. If the USA gets second in this group, as i think they will, they will play a quarterfinal and then go home. They are simply, judging by the last two matches, too poorly coached to get any further.
But, as i have said about other matches in this tournament, this is soccer and almost anything can happen.

i am watching the Japan vs brazil match and Japan scored early twice in the 2nd half and went up 2-1. Then they kind of took it easy and brazil scored their 2nd. It seems the goal may be overturned as the Brazil player grabbed a handful of jersey on the way through. It looks like a foul to me and the goal is disallowed. But the play showed that japan is not quite ready to count this as a win.
One more note the Japanese 'keeper is still showing real weaknesses and, if I were coaching Brazil I would tell them to shoot as often as possible as Japan's keeper is almost sure to screw something up. If japan has a real glaring weakness at GK.
Looking at this match so far it seems to be Japan's play that will determine the outcome. They are better, right now, at every position except 'keeper.
Brazil is reverting to fouls at every opportunity. They are looking a lot like Colombia right now with some skill and a lot of dirt.

I did not see any play where the Brazil GK was hurt but she has now gone down twice without contact. To be honest I think she is buying time and is not really hurt. But I know that there are non-contact or low contact injuries that are very painful and she may be suffering one of them. I still think it is some form of "gamesmanship" but the referee, being a "nice' person is not calling anything at all on her.
There has been an incident in Japan's box and brazil is crying for a foul. I think, if anything, it should be a foul on Brazil's center forward as she kicked the back of Japan's defender's leg. The referee agrees with me. No PK and Brazil loses a challenge.

I wonder if CONMEBOL selects for dirty play or if their referees are just so bad that their teams turn out dirty. They look worse than the dirtiest teams in CONCACAF. And i "thought" CONCACAF was dirty.

Japan now leads their group and the last day has become VERY important. Just how important will be seen later tonight. If it were on GK skill alone then this group would be dominated by Zambia. The Zambia vs Japan match will be VERY VERY interesting!

The Zambian vs Poland match is resembling the earlier Japan vs Brazil match. Poland scored early quite easily and, after that, Zambia took over but could not really produce much attack in the final third but their territorial dominance was almost complete. I am expecting their coach to make some small changes and the shots should both improve in quantity and quality.
I still expect Zambia to win but they have dug themselves a bit of a hole to scramble out of.

I wish Zambia would have a bit more "desire" in the box as they seem to give up a bit if things do not go well during the initial attack.

Poland scores a second goal and, for the first time in this tournament the Zambian GK made a HORRIBLE error. I still could be correct in thinking Zambia will win but it will take something Zambia has not yet shown, namely an offensive punch, to pull this out. There was a LONG (excessively long) review but the goal was obviously good. I have no idea what they could have been looking at.
It is now 2-0 and Zambia has a LOT of work to do.

In the England vs mexico match England has gone down to 10 players when the score was 2-1 in favor of Mexico. However Mexico allowed shorthanded England to score 2 and go up 3-2. There is some doubt about the last goal as the ball hit an English hand during the buildup but the referee did not see it as handling even thought the English player's arm was well extended away from her body. I think the ref blew that one badly. It was even reviewed and the decision did not change. I expected some really bad refereeing in this tournament but that play was just awful.
I now see why the goal was allowed as the play was a long time before the goal. But i still think it was wrong as England's possession was continuous and my understanding of the current use of the law seems to say that any foul in the buildup would negate the goal.
England has now scored in extra time and it looks like the final will be 4-2.
Mexico is going home and England will be playing Korea DPR for first in the group.

That was a disgraceful decision to give a red card to England in the Mexico game. How a referee can look at a replay of that and give a red card? Ludicrous.
