Got my ticket for Saturday’s derby! We better come to play. I heard that Forsberg is fit again… if so, wondering if he might be a 60’ sub? @Night shift you going? I’m in 202, r2, s2 (had that seat before)
I just watched warm up. Two interesting things: Forsberg was hanging around XI, but not taking shooting practice. Seems he might not be 100% yet. not surprisingly. Vanzier buried every one of his shots with aplomb from what I can tell. Why can’t he do that when it really counts?!! Maybe tonight??* *Edit: he did! But it was of little use in the end? Given how pathetic we were at defending tonight
Seriously though, since September started we have looked really poor. If Vanzier scoring can the monkey finally getting off his back and he can get hot, it may save us down the stretch. Gaffa needs to find out what's going on with the lads. New tactics, bench some people, blow dry treatment, throw some trash cans, something has to change out there.
I’m a very un-hyperbolic person. But I thought last night’s performance was so terrible that it just didn’t seem like a bad day at the office. It seemed more systematic. And I found myself wondering if the coach has lost it? (if he ever had it) Or lost the locker room? Or perhaps broader management is incapable of recruiting/developing talent at the appropriate level that we need to compete?
Ps. @Night shift and I had a nice little commiseratory chat in person last night at HT. Which was perhaps the highlight of the evening!
Yes we did. I’ll repeat what I said…….disgraceful!! This team was on the cusp of doing something great this year, if only they got a legitimate striker. Seems like the air went out of the balloon when they deliberately didn’t get that scoring threat. That combined with the coach’s remark that essentially said that when they hired him, he was told winning a cup wasn’t the priority. Developing young players was. When there is no pressure to win and little accountability, you begin to see what happens. This team no longer has any grit or fight in them. Some of these youngsters are soft and feel entitled on the field. They need to be challenged and have their jobs threatened. You can’t always field a youth team. You need veterans. Even if those guys are not wanted in Europe. You still need that veteran leadership to help the younger ones along. They have gotten away from that.
Just watched: TOR 1-4 NYRB WOW. I never would’ve expected that, after the debacle at RBA just 4 days ago. Great response! We played very positively, even right up to the end, when all we had to do was run out the clock. TBF we did ride a little bit of luck: TFC had 2 goals disallowed for offside; We went up a man when their star talisman earned 2 very foolish yellows; and they hit the bar. But I thought we looked the better team, on a rather dodgy pitch: soggy, and torn up by gridiron football. Forsberg was a big positive. We saw tonight what we’ve been missing: creativity, composure, glue, etc. We did exactly what we needed to do tonight. Unfortunately, our direct rivals just above us, did the same. ps. Vanzier is still a waste of money. He’s barely average as a forward/striker. Not deserving to be in the XI, if in the MLS at all, let alone being a DP?!

I understand his frustration but the blame does not seem to me to be more outside the club than inside the club. Feels like finger pointing to me, when you’ve failed, especially most recently.
After almost 25 years as a manager, Klopp is the new Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull. The German will take up the role on January 1, 2025, overseeing the energy drink's network of clubs. https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/ju...UgzEp3RkfH_UGHf9nw_aem_iSW580zkQvmc8Wln8rWkHw
I'm not so sure of that, Klopp doesn't seem built that way and the American market has a vast potential. Only time will tell.
I tend to lean a little bit more in your direction. I think this gives a little more hope than I had yesterday. But it’s really really hard to know at this point, and NYRB have certainly been at the bottom of their food chain, so…
Disappointing. I don't think a team has hit the post as often as we have. To go far in playoffs we need Forsberg. Vanzier will have to get a goal or so
Somehow I screwed up my days and thought decision day was today. Oops. Didn’t used to be on Sunday? Anyway, it might be just as well because that must’ve been a tear-your-heart-out kinda match. So I think I heard we get Columbus again in the playoffs. Next weekend?? Normally I schlep out to RBA for our home playoff matches, but this year…not 100% sure I’m up for it.
Decision day use to be Sunday at 3 or 4 so east coast had a late afternoon and west coast had an early afternoon
We win our first game of this playoffs round on the road at Columbus. Don’t know what to say other than, where was this effort the last few months? Will be there Sunday for sure
