We’re sputtering but instead of losing, we’re tying. Considering the players missing, that’s not bad but still frustrating since we could’ve won. I’ll be there Saturday. Anyway, MLS has announced new roster rules effective immediately. Basically gives teams more flexibility to spend more. This is it. They got to start bringing in players now. No young long term projects. Either they improve the roster or they’re not serious.

I'll be there too. First match of the season for me. Hopefully not the last. I'm sitting in S202 R2 S5 if you wanna say hello. Though I often move to the other end if we're attacking down there in first half.

HT 1-0. Nice early goal but perhaps we’re slightly lucky to still be leading?

Don’t know if TV showed it but we have a mascot “Redd the bull”. Maybe that’s all we needed all along.

More importantly they finally changed the scoreboard so the clock keeps ticking after 45:00 (and presumably 90:00). FINALLY!!!!

ps. Decent size crowd tonight. I would say 12-15K?

    FT NYRB 3-1 FCC

That was kinda fun. The way we finished the match it coulda been 5-1 or 6-2.

Can’t remember, the last time we had a match in the bag like this one.

Morgan a clear MOTM for me. If he can stay fit and in form that might just be the difference for our season.

ps. NYC drew and Crew lost. All in all a very good weekend.

Did the waffle score? Or is he still doing his King fo Goals impersonation?

If you mean Vanzeir, he was thankfully left on the bench until 75’. After that I can’t really recall anything he did of any real t significance.

Leagues Cup begins today for some teams and us on Saturday if you care. I personally don’t care and will boycott this sham tournament because of MLS dropping out of the US Open Cup.

I didn’t bother to watch either of the leagues cup matches, either live or on replay. But I did just look up the results, noticed that we lost both games in a 5-4 PK shootout, so I watched the YouTube highlights of those two shoot outs, and all I can say is:good thing that tournament is fairly meaningless because those could otherwise be two soul crushing defeats

ps. Tolkin should come back soon. Though he may be tired and need a little time off. I thought he played generally pretty well, if not great, in 4 games in France.

Just watched recap of CHA 1-1 NYR

We looked quite lively and progressive. And perhaps feel that not taking all 3 points was a bit unjust?

    Another great take by Manoel

Yeah but Vanzier with a great assist. He needs to take the next penalty. Something needs to break because he has been doing good runs and all the other stuff.

Down the stretch of the game, we definitely had the better chances. We’re doing this all still without Forsberg.

I had earmarked tonight‘s match to see in person, but we ended up having a couple of parties to go to. Neither was very good, but based on how it went tonight at RBA, I’m really glad we had those lame conflicts.

how many times can a team hit the woodwork?!

ps. If I’m not mistaken, both of their long range goals came a bit too easily down our right side where Kyle Duncan was stationed. :p

Woof!! Or should I say ping!! That has to be a new record. I guess you know there are games where you score six goals and it's a matter of getting the rub up the green and then their games like last night when are you just keep hitting the post

Thank God I had to work and missed this stinker. However, I’ll be there Saturday hoping for a miracle of our team having effective scorers.

Just watched full replay of NYRB 1-1 SKC

We had an atrocious 1T. We looked like strangers. Manoel had a mare… missed an absolute sitter from the 12yd spot… which alone represented 0.8 of our 0.83 total xG for the half.

HT stats: score 0-0, poss 51%-49%, xG 0.83-0.05, shots 2(1)-0(0). Ouch!

2T was better, but our naive defending gave up a goal, and a 2nd that was offside by inches. And Vanzeir missed his own sitter from 6yds. Game really opened up but nobody could find the net…

Until 16YO John Hall came on at 81’ and then showed all the “men” on the pitch how to do it… equalizing at 89’!

Final stats: score 1-1, poss 59%-41%, xG 1.85-0.87, shots 10(3)-4(1).

Best thing I can take away is that we didn’t give up.

p.s. at HT we brought on our latest (DP?!) signing, a Uruguayan from Gremio called Carballo… he was OK but not earth shattering… time will tell

Finally attending a game again. It took me until today to realize Morgan didn’t play lol.

In defense of Vanzeir, if the KC goalkeeper had a seizure and fell to the ground, he would’ve scored. Manoel had an open net and missed the damn thing entirely. Vanzeir’s 2 mph shot was at least on target.

The Uruguay DP we got is basically Maya’s replacement. A defensive midfielder. Not quite sure what an impact he’ll have until Forsberg returns

Morgan presumably was on Int'l duty w/ SCO.
Vanzeir seems like a perpetual deer in headlights.
Somehow I missed (or forgot) that Amaya had been traded.

Striker is supposedly the hardest position to recruit. That said, I think this has been our biggest deficiency for so many years now that I can't count them. Since peak BWP? My presumption is that club mgmt, up to the highest level, is negligent.

Amaya will be a loss. He was getting older but you are always sad to see solid but I'm spectacular players who always put in an honest shift

    Just watched Fire 2-1 NYRB

    What a frustrating match...
    • Eile had a bad 1T, gifted them their first goal... mighta been benched at HT had we any CB's on the bench (Nealis is injured?!)
    • Oh and who scored that goal? Our old buddy Tom Barlow... his first with the Fire?! (22 appearances) It was fated!
    • I assume Scwarz gave them a rollicking at HT because they came out on fire, and the 2 HT subs combined for a great goal within 2 mins of the restart (Vanzeir to Gjengaar)
    • But again our lately poor defense allowed them a 75' winner... Koustias was basically 1-on-3 in the box and still made the header look simple
    • The first 10 mins or so we looked good, then Chicago figured things out and took over 1T. We showed more desire and mission in 2T, evening up the stats, but ultimately FAILING: to score a 2nd, and the keep them from doing likewise
Meanwhile NYCFC drew which is some solace but they can catch us if they win their game in hand. Our cushion in 4th place has eroded to just 3 pts

I only was able to catch flimsy “recap”. But looks like our performance might’ve got the fans at RBA juiced. The few that were there anyway. Were you one of them?

We got a DM and not a finisher. We need a finisher. Vanzier is doing everything but score so that's use.

We really outplayed Atlanta. Maybe that excited the fans. Then after being down in extra time, the team in my eyes played with a desperation and urgency I haven’t seen in a while. Should’ve won the game. Result was actually a disappointment.
