I think we could have done something if for example an international roster spot were put on the table. Who knows. I’m not sure we know what to do with international roster spots which is why I thought we could use one or two as an asset for now and get quality NA players with league experience instead
Someone around here explained the International spots grow on trees these days so I doubt they have much value. We had to dish out Garber Bucks to get a coach, so our trade offers aren't good and other teams know we they have us at a disadvantage.
Correct. Each team is allocated a portion of the total amount of league wide intl spots and there is no limit on the number of intl spots a particular team can have, so they can trade spots willy nilly - if they can make a deal.
ah, selecting players is a lot like deciding on a girlfriend/boyfriend. sometimes it works out, sometimes it dont. I mean, seriously, who coulda known that Britney Spears wasn't gonna be a keeper?
Midfielder Brandon Parrish, D.C. United’s 2nd-round draft pick, not offered a contract and released. DC's roster as it stands: GK: Miller (INJ), Bono, Zamudio, Crockford DEF: Birnbaum, Akinmboni, McVey, Bartlett, Sargis, Tubbs, Herrera, Jeahze MID: Klich, Pirani, Peltola, Canouse, Rodriguez, Santos, Stroud, Garay, Hopkins FOR: Benteke, Ku-DiPietro, Murrell, Dajome, Fletcher 26 players, with 30 total roster spots available. I'm surprised the team has no natural RB backup for Herrera (at least Santos can provide cover for Jeahze). I also kind of wish there were one more central midfield option in there, especially on the attacking side of things. And a better veteran CB option to go with Binrbaum. But, this looks like what the team will likely roll into the regular season with given comments by Mackay about being up against the salary cap. Any reinforcements would likely require someone with a big salary going out the door. So, your thoughts going into the season? Who are your locks for the starting lineup (mine are Benteke, Klich, Peltola, Herrera, and ideally Pirani and TKD), but I honestly have no idea how they're going to line up and who of the big money players (Rodriguez and Dajome in particular) winds up starting and who winds up on the bench.
Barring a major injury to Benteke, this team could finish anywhere from Wooden Spoon to "Not Quite Mathematically Eliminated by Decision Day." They're a Spoon contender if Akinmboni isn't an instant club legend and Pirani continues with his current career trajectory.
Here's the backup for Herrera: D.C. United acquiring defender-midfielder Conner Antley, 28, from second-flight Tampa Bay Rowdies, per source. Transfer terms tba. Antley was a three-year starter for Rowdies. #dcu #mls #usl— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) February 14, 2024
Comfortable from central defender to the right wing back spot, Antley was one of the best defensive players in the USL with Tampa Bay. He's a very good crosser of the ball and pinpoint passer, but he's got the 6'1" frame and tremendous recovery speed to do it all defensively. https://t.co/s6X7K9lbN4 pic.twitter.com/KOySrTel3B— John Morrissey (@USLTactics) February 14, 2024
Did you not watch a single match last season? If you did you saw: Miller, Bono, Birnbaum, Klich, Pirani, Canouse, Santos, Hopkins, Benteke, TedKu, Dajome, and Fletcher
