Well, I took solace in the fact that whenever they showed highlights of other games, a lot of the time when someone scored against the Crew, Parkhurst was seen frantically chasing the player back to his own end.

But at the time, I thought it was more about the Revs than it was about Parkhurst. A local kid who attended the first-ever Revs home game, grew up to play for them, and then decided he'd rather play in Cow-lumbus??? Was it like Jeff Larentowicz and his "moment of clarity?"

Yeah I struggle to blame players who were here for our "golden age" being frustrated by management and then seeing that not only had the situation not improved it had gotten worse since they left.

Burns ruined the team for a decade. Now its Billelo's turn

And, we don’t know if the Revs showed real, serious interest.

That's the thing... When Dempsey came back to MLS, there was never any discussion of him coming back here. It was only the "big spending clubs" who were mentioned as a possible destination. So the Revs likely did not show any real serious interest in signing any player that would alter their salary budget.

Remember the guy they touted as their "first ever DP," Milton Caraglio, a.k.a. the $54,000 man?

I remember Feldman's attempts to sell him as a 'DP' during broadcasts. Didn't he actually do pretty well after he left here?

He did, and I thought he did pretty well in the 1/3 or so of the season he was here. He scored a few goals, and adjusted to a new league, new teammates, travel and turf, any of which might take a while to get used to.

Who knows, there may have been an escalator in his contract, where the initial contract was smaller, and the option was for a much larger amount.

We would have had to commit some money to keep him, but I don’t think it was an outrageous amount. It was mainly about having enough confidence that his knees were okay after seeing him play only a handful of games.

I was disappointed that they didn’t resign him and I think it was clearly one Burns got wrong (but don’t think it was primarily about money).

But that's a lose-lose situation. Bring a guy in for short money, and if he does well, sign him to a better contract. If not, adios. That's what they did with Steve Howey. But if they weren't willing to pony up for the new contract, why bring him in at all? Seems like he did everything they asked of him, but what do I know.

That kind of thing was a pattern back in those days. They brought in some guys for half a season and while they were decent, they cut them loose and then needed to replace them, which of course they never did. But Burns was playing 9-dimensional chess, they say.

Yeah, wrong call that time. We needed a holding forward and he was good at that.

With this move they're at 31, but at least 2 of those players are season ending injuries that they can claim long term relief for

Giroud is going to be his backup, I guess.

As per the Athletic, 14-year old Philadelphia Union wonderkid Cavan Sullivan will be signing with Man City. The upfront fee is rumored to be just over $2M, but if all bonuses are triggered, it will wind up at $5M. There's also going to be a heavy sign-on clause added to this. PL teams can't sign an overseas player till he's 18, so he's going to be with the Union till at least the winter window opens in January 2028.

Screws me since I had booked flights for the Revs games in Columbus (May 29th) and Nashville (June 1), but the Crew has informed their STH that the game will be pushed due to the CCC Final.

This applies to the Revs as well, but FINALLY, MLS puts out information that actually helps the fans. A full listing of every MLS roster, player designation, contract end date, international spots, etc.

For example, while Charlotte have 13 international spots, Nashville is only using 4 currently (we have 6).

Also, not counting Option Years, Lima and Wood are the senior roster players up after this season, and Spaulding is the only supplemental.

The big news there was that Bolma is currently inactive i.e. unrostered. So he doesn't count for intl slot purposes, and his roster spot is open.

I also saw that EEJ is on a supplemental deal, so it looks like we have another vacant senior roster spot as a result

Revs @ Crew moved to Saturday Oct 12th, which is an international weekend (no other MLS games).

This is the Krafts. It would take 3 straight horrible seasons for them to wake up and do something (okay, maybe less if his contract expired).

I know that the politically “correct” view is that Porter is/was missing key pieces and that the players needed to learn his positional tactics. That it is/will be improving.

    But…

I think that Porter has succeeded in creating an even more leaky defense (inclusive of the midfield) than we had when Arena was here. And despite the good times under Arena, the defense was subject to several complete brain farts per game. I feel it is now much worse.

While I assume learning “positional tactics” contributes to the anemic offense, I’d have to call our offense, so far, more than anemic. It is on life support. This team creates so little danger that opposing goalies are in danger of going into a sleep coma.

    C. Gil has become so marginalized that he could almost sit out. Was Arena possibly better at adjusting the scheme so that Gil got the ball in better positions?

And, finally, I feel we’re seeing REV players all over the field passing the ball directly to the other team even when under no pressure at all.

I’d argue he should be feeling the heat. I don’t think he is though.

I don't know if the defense is more leaky. I'd argue that Turner and Petro protected that defense a lot more than the current crop.
