Peak optimism is still ahead! Our new RED kit has just been announced and our 2 big signings (Cuypers and Acosta) have yet to play a minute!
No, we are at peak optimism. We might just see that neither is worth what we think they are. Hopefully, peak REALITY is still ahead!
How many minutes do Acosta and Cuypers get in Philly? 15 tops? Cuypers is match fit so he could go a full 90 and Acosta is probably good for 60 minutes, but I think Frank runs out Gimenez/Navarro and Koutsias as starters on Saturday next week. I am excited for the season to start, but I'm not smoking the hopium, just yet. What was that phrase Chris M. used here all the time? Ah yes, results mother****! The FO finally did something, we know what the coaching staff can do, now it is up to the players.
I haven't heard from Chris M in a while. He took a position out east a while ago. I should email him and see how he's doing.
Few things I’m anxious to see… A DP9! It may take a while for him to sync up, but it’s clear Cuypers is bringing skills we haven’t had since Niko Shaqiri has help and should be meaningfully more productive! Acosta can be effective box to box! 2 fullbacks that WILL particulate in the attack! More Brady and Guti development…it’s clear neither has hit their ceiling and it’s fun to witness their maturation. Both have good chance at progressing to the USMNT…not for the next World Cup but the following…and having Acosta here to provide insights to that world is a nice bonus. We are once again ‘THE MEN IN RED’! Good energy all around, LFG! VAMOS FIRE!!!
New Red Kit! Improved Roster! How can anybody not be optimistic? Congratulations on a job well done! Acosta! Cuypers! As they say, the proof is in the pudding. But multiple changes appear to make sense and, importantly, to fit. Recent performance by the acquisition team make everyone more comfortable that the new acquisitions will work out as expected. Two green cards and two more player disposals would allow Glasgow on Fire I now and position the Fire for a YDP. Mid-season will likely bring additional needed changes but the current roster should provide competitive soccer. Relax and enjoy the show!
I know this is the wrong thread, but now I am questioning the Barlow move instead of having Glasgow on Fire I. At least Heitz has admitted some mistake and has largely fixed them, but this and not being able to move Souquet has hurt Glasgow until the summer window. I am still optimistic about this season.
sounds like the international slot issue would have prevented Glasgow anyways, at least if we’re only considering those two players in this discussion
You are probably right that it is primarily an international slot issue more than anything else on why Glasgow is not on Fire I.
Any truth to rumor that the Soccer Gods thought Fire fans were too happy so they decided Gutman would get injured in first five minutes of season?
Hey Guys! Optimism! Remember! I know it is early but I saw at least four things to be happy about. Arigoni and Acosta both look like they will perform well and be upgrades over last year. Gutierrez and MHS both showed noticeable improvement. Be Happy!
Word from Lugano is Arigoni's biggest rub is losing focus at times. Physically, he was above average in the Swiss League.
In the In the preseason games Arigoni regularly oo er played the attack and was slow to get back. He’d call for switch with MHS. Hope that was just a preseason thing
Always takes a while for players to integrate. Additionally, sometimes playing next to Salquist ( new player) and sometimes playing behind Shaqiri, sometimes behind MHS ( vastly different players) has to make the process even harder. Lack of consistency has to slow down his incorporation into team defense. I thought he fit in better than expected. Hoping he will finish the adjustment process.
PS- not saying he is ready to excel at covering 2 positions defensively and also contribute on offense at this time…
I don't like it because I wish the roster was solidified much sooner, but my only optimism is that Cuypers and Acosta have only been with the team for 2 weeks. While Cuypers is in mid-season form, Acosta had 0 preseason and will need at least a month to get 90 minute fit. Both still need to figure out how to play with the rest of the team. Gutman and Teran's injuries have not helped either.
it's obviously way too early for any serious doom and gloom my optimism is based on: 1) time for cohesion among newer (hopefully) high-impact players 2) stretches of competence on the road against a good philly team 3) an opportunity to learn from mistakes in the last game and 4) continued return to health
