    Washington Spirit
    February 7, 2025

The Washington Spirit has agreed to loan midfielder Deborah Abiodun and forward Tamara Bolt to Dallas Trinity FC of the USL Super League, the clubs announced today. Both loans are termed for the remainder of the 2025 calendar year with Dallas paying an undisclosed loan fee to the Spirit. Washington Spirit Adds French Defender Kysha Sylla on Loan From Olympique Lyon
    Washington Spirit
    February 6, 2025

The Washington Spirit has agreed to terms with French sister club Olympique Lyon (OL) to bring defender Kysha Sylla to DC on loan for the 2025 season, the clubs announced today. Sylla will occupy an international slot on the Spirit roster.

“I am very excited to join Washington Spirit for the upcoming season,” said Sylla. “It’s a great opportunity for me to grow as a player and experience a new challenge. I can’t wait to meet my teammates, the staff and the amazing fans. See you soon, Washington!”

Since joining OL in 2021, Sylla has appeared in 17 matches in the Première Ligue and tallied nearly 1,000 minutes of playing time. Sylla helped Lyon to three league titles, a Champions League title and another Champions League final appearance in her first three seasons with the club.

“Kysha represents another talented addition to this year’s roster,” said President of Soccer Operations/General Manager Mark Krikorian. “We expect her to have a significant impact on the team’s success in the defending third this season.”

San Diego Wave target rising Barcelona star to replace Naomi Girma

    7 February 2025

San Diego Wave is set to pull off a massive move in the NWSL market, with Jana Fernández, Barcelona's 22-year-old defender, on their radar. Having lost Naomi Girma to Chelsea not long ago, the Californian club looks for an adequate replacement in the form of the Spanish center-back.

But will the signing take place? According to Mundo Deportivo, Barça have until February 15 to activate an automatic contract extension that would further complicate the American club's plans.

Smith and Swanson are not leaving. They are married to professional athletes who compete in the US. Smith has also said she is not interested in playing in Europe. Trinity's brand is US based. I doubt she leaves to play against low blocks.

That why I think Lindsey Horan will come to NWSL soon. Her husband is now the
sporting director of San Diego FC

there’s only one reason Chelsea went after Girma & others…..and that’s to win the Champions League! It’s the most prestigious thing in the world to them, but to me, just looks like some pyramid scheme, up for grabs to the highest club bidder(in terms of buying top players). They’ll put club before country in trying to win this shing dig. The WSL is way more physical than the NWSL & so way more injuries(19 ACL’s to the 11 NWSL for last season). While being the strongest league in Europe, it’s still no way as balanced as the NWSL(as there’s no restrictions on a club’s buying power).
Gorma should see the world’s toughest competition(club or NT( vs Barca’s frontline of Paralleulo Pajor Graham with Bonmati holdings the strings at attacking mid….so in this case, I can see where Girma’s strong sense for professionalism made her go to Chelsea.
Meantime NWSL decided to put the Concacaf/Chsmpions League on the back burner as Mexico’s Club America & Tigress are current leaders in their respective groups(as the NWSL clubs often out their 2nd tier lineups in that competition)

thanks for the link, the article doesn’t add much(that we don’t already know) but NWSL raising the minimum pay to $48.5K(plus you would think at least free housing) should keep woso healthy in terms of wanting to play professional.—-the previous lower pay held back quite a lot of potential young players from making a living as pro’s.

Time will tell if this was a start of money on the woman's side or just a one-off.

There are a few questions that I have and time will tell if those questions will be answered from the gorma transfer

Yes, it was rumoured since some weeks and it had been already mentioned on the Italian thread on these boards. She's Italy's top-player at this moment and she was the main reason why Juventus won the title this season. I am sad that the Italian league lost her, but I am happy she had the opportunity to play abroad and I am curious to see if she's going to be as good in NWSL as she was in Serie A Femminile or in UEFA WCL. :coffee:
