But it was only Jay Heaps. They should have given Andy a medal. Heaps was one of the dirtiest players ever, and Herron had just had enough. Look at that clip - Heaps was all over Herron like a cheap prom date.
Thanks for the memories. That view makes it look like Frankie was purposely trying to run a decoy and block the ref's view of the crime....He probably was. Jay Heaps was a complete tool who hacked everyone, and probably deserved what Herron gave him.
Weird question from a soccer non-lifer. Why do people say “Darby” instead of “Derby” when talking about a rivalry game? It’s spelled derby, but people pronounce it so it rhymes with “Barbie” and not with “Kirby”. Am I missing something?
And then Caleb Porter, fresh off a $20,000 fine for griping about the officiating, gets absolutely hosed on a non-call in the box as some opponent did a Brad Friedel imitation on a shot, smothering it with his hand and arm in the middle of the box, not just deflecting it but literally stopping it dead. Blatant hand ball. No call. Porter probably went home and kicked the dog, but I think a better use of his time would be to start screening real.estate agents. Two of his own players. had to be separated from screaming at each other on the way off the field after an ugly 4 -0 shellacking at the hands of a fairly pedestrian Charlotte side. Poor Caleb. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
Lots of buyer's remorse over on the Revs boards. I don't hate their club, and so don't take much joy in witnessing their suffering. About all they're hoping for at this point is that Porter's "wins an MLS Cup every 5 years" streak continues, since 2025 would be that year. And, of course, years when hasn't won a cup - at least more recently in his coaching career - his teams have been terrible, as were in 2019 and the revs are this year. Trouble is, his Crew teams failed to miss the playoffs every other year he coached here other than 2020. And they'd be solid Wooden Spoon contenders this year, if it weren't for San Jose's brutal incompetence. https://www.theblazingmusket.com/p/new-england-revolution-caleb-porter-fired-mls-2024
Porter had an elite FO here that could identify and was willing to pay for top talent, starting with Lucas in 2020. In Portland, he had two of the best midfielders to ever play in MLS both in their primes, and very good GM/terrible human being Gavin Wilkinson building around those pieces. The Revs have Curt Onalfo and a cheap owner, who are overseeing a fire sale of all their most promising assets. Best of luck to Caleb in his future endeavors.
They have Carles Gil, Borreo, that new guy, Chancalay preinjury, and two of the top prospects in America. He had enough talent before the season to make the playoffs. He refused to play Peyton Miller and Noel Buck. Even though he said he would when he was asked before the season if he would play the kids unlike in prior sints. He had a short leash on them, to the point that Buck asked to join a random English u21 side while management traded Dejuan Jones away to force Porter into playing Miller.
Vancouver won in a shootout with sebastian berhalter notching a pk. Kamara who scored in ET and LAFC finally taste some silverware again
Miami mathematically qualified for next year's CCC. Can't wait for them to have to go to Vancouver Island to play a Canadian PL side. Inter Miami have qualified for the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup.Here is Concacaf's wording because I tried to type out an explanation and I'm not gonna be able to do that within the character limit pic.twitter.com/kmAiluvVED— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) September 26, 2024
Interesting note: if any of the following Miami players gets a yellow card tonight, they will be suspended for our game on Wednesday: Jordi Alba Luis Suarez Tomas Aviles Federico Redondo Ian Fray
This is one of those nights where the simultaneous start times on a platform where they tell you all the scores is a bummer. I'd love to be able to watch that Cincy/LAFC match and that NY Derby without knowing the results.
I watched the end of the Miami gm then flipped to the end of the Cincinnati gm while watching Ohio St the entire time
