Except for Miami who continues to win without Messi the rest of the results have mostly benefited us but we don’t handle business 2 matches in a row.
8/24 when play resumes Cincinnati @miami is a big game. Miami is running away with the shield and talking about upgrading at CB but we somehow think our defense is the best but it’s not and we better start improving it.
Minnesota United FC supporters (I think that's who these guys are) will be boycotting the Leagues Cup. The part about corporate-driven ventures...so, they'll be boycotting the rest of the MLS season? (Tongue-in-cheek.)
They're under the impression that Minnesota United FC is an example of " authentic grassroots soccer"?
Yeah, because the Open Cup gets such attendance figures!! It’s loved universally from coast to coast. This Leagues Cup boycott has really caught on (with my bubble of 15 people on Twitter)!! We’re really gonna make a difference! *check Minnesota’s USOC attendance notes from last season* Oh… it was 4,216. Whoops.
There are a lot of MLS Supporter's Groups making statements this week regarding their stance on Leagues Cup and Open Cup. The Nordecke, during last week's monthly meeting with members of the Crew FO, expressed our support for the Team's participation in the US Open Cup. However, we have no plans for organized protest or other action during the Leagues Cup.
While it's true the teams could definitely do more to promote the USOC, it's always been my understanding that it's the Fed's baby. It's up to them to promote it, organize it, take some(?) of the profit, etc etc. With that said...if the schedule is too crowded, it'd be perfect for MLS Next Pro. Apparently MLS not being in it is "against the charter" or the "contract" or whatever with USSF. If that's really the case, I suppose they could have sued, but I'm assuming it's either NOT the case or they care so little they decided not to action to force MLS teams into it for 2024.
How does Leagues Cup undermine the integrity of the league? And how does it support commercial interest over the sport itself? I mean, you can not like the tournament, but I don't get this. They're just really upset that they think it's taking away from the US Open Cup and had to try to come up with some deep hyperbolic reasoning to justify their annoyance?
There was a lengthy discussion of the topic in the USOC thread. Theoretically, all MLS teams are supposed to participate but the USSF leadership includes Garber so it got worked out. At one point teams were going to send their MLSNP teams if they were playing in CCC.
If I had a magic wand, I would have the three mini tournaments and MLS playoffs all take place in a different season. Each tournament gets about a one month window to do what they need to do. I'm also not opposed to have MLS season break line up with international competition window. (Please don't call me Euro snob, you don't watch or have a rooting interest in anything over the pond.)
I think there will be new regulations that will allow MLS teams to send largely MLSNP squads, with maybe a minimum amount of senior players required.
What? There’s a ton complaining in the replies. pathetic supporter's group, this isn’t how you get change, weak, pathetic, lame, etc. I would say there are more complaints than support
On Twitter, yes, we are getting quite a bit of flack. Overall around the internet, though, the response has been in line what we expected. I won't say much more, though. It's very difficult to tell the difference, in this space, between Chris the Elected Comms Director and Chris the Human Being.
Maybe once or if Minnesota United loses a player to injury on a crummy USL side artificial turf field, their supporters would feel different?
Plus, after the MNUFC upset victory over the vastly superior Crew last year at lower.com Field, you would think their supporters would be big fans of Leagues Cup.
Next time you go to the stadium ask 10 random people what they think about the merits of the USOC and Leagues Cup, and watch them just stare blankly at you. Its Twitter, who cares. Also, no offence meant towards @LaMacchia but I don’t need a fan group to tell me how to think. I think a lot of casuals or wannabe 80’s English hooligan cosplay dorks see SGs getting all pissy so they get pissy. Wanna know what most people in Minnesota think? 4,000 attendance last year when they play Philly in the USOC. Know what the Minnesota attendance was when they played Puebla? 19,000+ and don’t tell me that it’s 19,000 Mexicans in there. That is what fans really think.
People who have deep, deep connections to the sport and to the game appreciate the Open Cup. But the majority of people just want to watch soccer. The better the game, the more enjoyable it is. I'm not a follower of Liga MX by any means -- I'd rather watch two MLS teams playing each other. But watching a game against a Mexican team is far more entertaining to me than a match against a bunch of minor leaguers. I still think MLS should be in the Open Cup. And if other fans want to cut off their nose to spite their face, let them. It's a free country. If you don't like Leagues Cup, don't watch. I just don't appreciate how some people insist that their viewpoint is the only valid one, and if you disagree you're not pure enough to be a fan. Shut the f*** up.
I agree. USSF just needs to loosen player restrictions for MLS teams in USOC. I think that more or less solves the problem.
I'd also be really curious to see how many of these "ML$ I$ Evil" people who bemoan the cash grab that is Leagues Cup shelled out the money to sit in the nosebleeds to watch that open practice session from whatever the hell Premiership team is coming here.
There's a comment in the FB thread about how the Nordecke cowards are nothing but LARPs. Whatever. As we all know, any Nordecke member can vote, and run, in the elections. If they don't run or vote, what's that say about them? If people complain about the Nordecke, the team, stadium or league and don't even come to games, what's that mean?
