He was? Are you sure you're not combining the Match Ignitor with the goal celebration?

I think you may be correct, he was definitely the match ignitor, I thought they also put him on the jackhammer? When we scored our one goal we were busy celebrating and I didn't pay attention to the jackhammer.

I’m kinda used to the jackhammer now. It’s really not that awful. Would have made more sense and/or been better accepted if we started doing it long before now.

At least we’re not sawing off a chunk of a log. Or singing Doop.

Or the LA Lakers (originally in Minnesota).

And in a deep, dark recess of my mind, I seem to recall that Lipton was a sponsor of NE.

My favorite is the Rochester Royals who became the Cinncinnati Royals which became the Kansas City Kings which became the Sacramento Kings.

All because "Royals" was an illiteration with Rochester, and then I guess got promoted to Kingship.

Has any other team moved three times?

The Raiders, Rams, and I believe the Arizona Cardinals have moved 3+ times.

And the A's--going for a fourth: Philly, KC, Oakland, and LV.

Also the New Jersey Devils were the KC Scouts and Colorado Rockies.
There may be more (not counting minor league franchises).

And the Chargers were LA to SD to LA.

    I expect there are more.

Yeah, well, let's all just remember that off all the teams y'all old heads and historians can name that have moved, there has only been one that was stopped from moving: The Columbus F*cking Crew.

And I believe the Cardinals were originally named after the color and not the bird.

The league that grew into the NFL once had their offices on the 11th floor of 16 E. Broad.

There are other cases, though a lot of the maneuvering was behind the scenes.

I get the tea thing. I don't think it's an awful idea. But that execution is/was terrible. Like, shouldn't there be a fake body of water or something to throw it into? Instead tlhey just chuck an empty box on to the field at the camera man.

See, I've never really heard anyone complain about the match ignitor. Always the jackhammer.

I mean, sawing off a log is something they have done since at least the USL days, and it fits the Timbers brand perhaps more than our construction theme, with all the logging they have up in that area. Of course, they could always just have a commemorative shoe for each goal since they are the athletic shoe headquarters of the US. I think that it was just a new thing for the new stadium, try new shit there since we have the opportunity and the space.

Oh, speaking of the Timbers, someone had a great idea on what to do with their jersey sponsor problem - Nike could be their jersey sponsor, with a nice big swoosh. Local company, very famous, I'm sure there would be zero conflicts of interest with the league, sign them up!

This isn't necessarily related to other teams, but....

There's been some discussion/rumoring that MLS may divide further into divisions in the coming years.

There's no way it happens before 30 teams. Six divisions (three per conference) of five teams would be perfect mathematically, but could lead to some awkward divisions.

There's certain teams that probably need to stay together like New England, Toronto and Montreal or the two LA teams, the PNW teams, the Texas teams or the Florida teams.

Here's an example, which is far from perfect. Playoffs could be an all-league thing (division champs and next-best teams regardless of division), for example, but that's also awkward. MLS has done this before, though.

D1: VAN, SEA, POR, SJ, LAFC, LAG
--This one is just about perfect and basically is untouchable. If it's five teams each...how does this near-perfection get divided? Would Las Vegas get a team? VAN, SEA, POR....LAFC, LAG, LV, SJ...but that's uneven. I do like having the three California teams together, but if it was more divisions with fewer teams, would SJ be the "odd man out" here?

D2: TOR, MTL, NE, NYC, NYRB, PHL
--Also basically untouchable...except there's no DC. Montreal and Toronto should also be together and Montreal should be with New England.

D3: RSL, COL, MIN, KC, StL, NSH
--This one is... weird, at best. Nashville and RSL in the same division? I'm reminded of the weird Northwest Division which used to exist in the NHL. Some of those teams definitely make sense in the same division. RSL/COL have El Capitan and KC and St Louis definitely make sense in the same division.

D4: AUS, DAL, HOU, ORL, MIA, ATL
--The Texas teams and Florida teams have to stay together, but in the same division? Really? It also makes sense to throw Atlanta in with the Florida teams.

D5: DC, CHA, CHI, CLB, CIN
--Columbus and Cincinnati together for obvious reasons. DC separate from the New York teams? I'm not sure I like that. Chicago and Minnesota should also ideally be paired together.

How would you all do it?

I think it would happen at 32 teams, and in any scenario it would be an even number of divisions.

Vegas or Phoenix would come in at the same time as… whoever in the east.
