The Hanshin Tigers scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning to give the reigning Nippon Series champions a 3-0 victory over the Hiroshima Carp on Tuesday.

Kairi Shimada hit a one-out double to right field that scored Ryuhei Obata all the way from first base. Two insurance runs secured the win for the Tigers who are now 5-5-5 in extra innings games this season.

Hiroto Saiki failed in his second attempt to pick up his ninth win of the year despite another magnificent outing that saw him allow just one hit and two walks over 7 shutout innings. He also fanned six batters and lowered his ERA to 1.11

Hiroshima's starter Masato Morishita went one inning better, recording nine strikeouts while allowing just one walk with four base hits.
In the 5th inning he became the 20th pitcher in NPB history to throw an immaculate inning, striking out Ryutaro Umeno, Obata and Saiki on nine pitches total.

Daigo Kamikawabata went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and his first home run of the year in leading the Nippon=Ham Fighters to an 8-3 win over the Lotte Marines.

Yuya Gunji also homered in going 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Earlier in the day news broke that 9 Fighters players had been voted onto the Pacific League All-Star team including top vote getter Chusei Mannami. It's the first time in P.L.history that 9 players from one club were voted onto the All-Star squad. The Hanshin Tigers (Central League) achieved this twice including last season. 2003 was the other occasion.

Hiromi Oka, who hit two singles for the Marines, saw his consecutive games streak of hitting a double snapped at eight games.
The Marines have now lost all seven games they have played at Es Con Field Hokkaido this season.

The Fighters wore their 50th anniversary throwback uniforms with the players wearing #100 on the backs of the jerseys in honor of Yoshinori Okoso, the founder of the Nippon Meat Packers company who bought the Nittaku Home Flyers in 1973 and moved the club to Sapporo and renaming the team the Nippon-Ham Fighters. He died in 2005.

Domingo Santana drove in three runs including two with a two-out 9th inning double as the Yakult Swallows overcame an early three-run deficit to beat the DeNA Baystars 5-3 at Yokohama Stadium.

Shugo Maki hit his 11th home run of the year, a three-run shot that game the BayStars a 1st inning lead.

But Yakult fought back and eventually tied it at 3-3 in the 7th when Munetaka Murakami's single to centerfield scored Tetsuto Yamada from second base.

American Tyler Austin's infield single in the 9th inning extended his consecutive games hitting streak to 20. The NPB record is 33.

After losing seven times on the road in Kitahiroshima, the Chiba Lotte Marines finally won their first game at Es Con Field Hokkaido this season with a come-from-behind 9-6 win over the Nippon-Ham Fighters.

The Marines scored five runs in the 5th inning punctuated by Kyota Fujiwara's bases loaded double that flipped a 5-4 deficit into a 6-5 lead.

Toshiya Satoh went 3-for-5 for Lotte with 4 RBIs including a three-run home run off Nippon-Ham's prized first round rookie Haruki Hosono.

The Fighters had taken a 5-3 lead in the 3rd inning on Franmil Reyes' second grand slam of the season. But just like his previous slam against the Rakuten Eagles nearly two weeks ago Nippon-Ham came out on the losing end.

Natsuki Takeuchi boosted his case for Pacific League Rookie of the Year by tossing 8 shutout innings in the Seibu Lions 4-0 win over the SoftBank Hawks on Thursday.

Takeuchi allowed just four base runners, all on base hits, while striking out six against NPB's strongest team offensively. He picked up his fifth win in five decisions on just his ninth career outing.

Shūta Tonosaki drove in two runs in the 3rd inning with a two-out bases loaded single to centerfield which ultimately proved to be the game-winning hit.

Seiya Matsubara and Natsuo Takizawa knocked in two more runs in the 9th giving Albert Abreu unnecessary room to work with as he set down the Hawks in order to close out the win.

Kentaro Taira tossed his first complete game shutout of his career in leading the Yokohama DeNA BayStars to a 3-0 blanking of the Yakult Swallows.

Taira, who turns 29 on 12 July, allowed seven hits while walking no batters and fanning five on 113 total pitches.

Yota Kyoda's fielder's choice groundout scored Toshiro Miyazaki in the 2nd inning for the game-winning RBI.
Shugo Maki and Keita Sano drove home insurance runs in the later innings to cement the victory and keep the BayStars two games behind the Hiroshima Carp at the top of the Central League standings.

Hiroto Takahashi threw a complete game shutout, the second of his career, in leading the Chunichi Dragons to a 2-0 win over the Hiroshima Carp.

Takahashi, who turns 22 in August, faced just three batters over the minimum allowing four hits, one walk and inducing two double plays. He struck out seven on 99 pitches, securing the 'Maddux' with no pitches to spare while lowering his ERA to 0.64

Orlando Calixte's single to left in the 1st inning drove in Mikiya Tanaka from second base for the only run Takahashi would need on the night.
Christián Rodríguez added an insurance run with an RBI bloop single in the 2nd.

The game lasted 2 hours 20 minutes despite no pitch clock in NPB.

A three-run home run by Daichi Suzuki helped propel the Rakuten Eagles to an impressive 5-1 victory over the SoftBank Hawks in Fukuoka.

Suzuki's homer flipped a 1-0 deficit into a lead that the home team rarely threatened to catch thanks to the Rakuten pitching staff which came came up huge against the big bats of the Hawks in the latter innings.

Eagles starter Takahisa Hayakawa allowed seven hits and four walks in his 6 frames of work but was able to get out of difficult jams by fanning 11 batters total, ending 4 innings by punching out the final batter as the Hawks left 10 runners stranded through those 6 innings.

Relievers Sora Suzuki, Tomohito Sakai and Takahiro Norimoto each pitched a perfect inning to cement the win.

Hayakawa is currently second in NPB with 93 strikeouts.

The Lotte Marines rallied for three runs in the 8th inning capped by Toshiya Satoh's two-run double that flipped a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 win over the Seibu Lions at the Belluna Dome in Saitama.

It was the second double of the night for Satoh who now has 12 on the year.

Hiromi Oka led all players at the plate going 3-for-5, raising his batting average to .306 for the season.

The Marines have won all 10 games they have played against Seibu in 2024.

In the middle of the 5th inning when the Lions-Marines contest became official, Masaharu Kasahara was honored for having umpired his 3000th NPB game.
Kasahara, age 59, made his NPB debut on 10 October 1991 and is the 20th umpire in NPB history to have worked at least 3000 games.
His appearance record includes four All-Star games (including two as home plate umpire) and 10 Japan Series'. He was also selected to umpire games at the 2006 World Baseball Classic and 2020 Olympic Games.

Teruaki Sato's two-out single to right field in the 6th inning scored Takumu Nakano with the game-winning run to give the Hanshin Tigers a 2-1 victory over the Yokohama DeNA BayStars at Koshien Stadium.

Sato hit a first pitch single off Yofrec Diaz who had just come on in relief.

Tyler Austin had given the visitors the lead with a solo home run in the 4th. his ninth dinger of the year.

Ryuhei Obata tied it an inning later with an RBI single to right that scored Kairi Shimada from third base.

Hanshin's starting pitcher Masashi Itoh went 7 innings to even his record at 4-4.

A crazy ending allowed the Hanshin Tigers to pick up a 6-5 sayonara victory over the Yokohama DeNA BayStars Sunday night at Koshien.

Down 5-4 with two outs and the bases loaded, Fumihito Haraguchi hit a grounder through the infield into shallow right field where Ryuki Watarai fielded the ball and it looked like he had a shot at throwing out Haraguchi at first base to end the game. Instead he threw wildly past Tyler Austin allowing two runs to score for the walk off Tigers victory.

It was Watarai's second error of the game as his three-base error in the 5th inning gifted Hanshin their first run of the night after the BayStars had taken a 4-0 lead.

The result presents a log jam in the Central League standings as four teams are within one game of each other in the marathon fight for the pennant.

Yutaro Sugimoto's two-out two-run home run capped a four-run 6th inning to help lead the Orix Buffaloes to a come-from-behind 6-3 win over the Nippon-Ham Fighters at the Osaka Dome.

The Buffaloes batted around the order in the inning shelling out six hits to overturn a 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 lead. Yuma Mune hit a two-RBI double before Sugimoto cranked his fourth round-tripper of the year.

Kenya Wakatsuki added a solo blast in the 8th to complete the scoring.

The win puts Orix back into the playoff picture as they leapfrog the Fighters into third place in the Pacific League table.
