Just an absolutely hilarious handball in Portland by Chara. Arm was up way over his head for an offside. Pretty poor sell on-died by Wiseman but they’ve got it right ultimately.

Interesting PK in Portland. I wonder if that will teach them not to appeal for offside?

I was the source. In stadium behind that goal (but on the other side). It wasn't obvious from our angle that contact had been made so we originally thought the yellow was a bogus call.

I had a friend ask me a question on this that I wasn't 100% sure of the answer on. The Nashville defender plays the ball out and then gets hit by Yapi. It appeared that the ball was out of play before the contact, but it was a bang-bang play. If the ball however was clearly out before the foul, what's the restart? Should it be a corner kick because the foul happened after the ball was out of play, or would it still be a free kick restart for the foul?

Not the most important stuff here but why haven't we seen anyone wearing the red or green (or pink!) OSI jerseys? MIN-CLB and SKC-PHI would've been very good candidates for these kits. Instead we just get more blue and yellow, with the odd black jersey here or there. I wonder why.

I hope PSRA are prepared to cave or wait a few damn months at this point. Not a couple of weeks.

Other than NWSL, there is just no appetite for the pink jersey anywhere. It's basically red.

I suspect most of the replacement referees that actually do games regularly don't even own a pink jersey.

Unless USSF wants to make it the 6th color, it's just not gonna gain traction.

It's simply just not practical. If you can wear red, then you don't need to wear pink.

Enough fans already think the refs favor Inter Miamis side. I don't think refs wearing pink would help.

    (Sarcasm....kinda)

I think you are right. I was so sure Vermes would be the one to go off about replacement referees, but his comments look like he has no love for PRO either. I’m not sure PSRA is going to be able to pull this one off.

The scabs for today were supposed to have been published nearly 3 1/2 hours ago, and there's still nothing. Something to keep an eye on.

PRO has now updated and they have this...

New England Revolution vs Toronto FC
    Gillette Stadium (2PM ET)
    REF: Wesley Costa
    AR1: Nicola Vesia
    AR2: Miguel Yupari
    4TH: Victor Borges
    VAR: TBD
    AVAR: TBD

Note the difference at AR1. Fascinating.

This matches what was announced on the Apple broadcast. Perhaps someone who knows what the two possibilities look like could clarify who is at AR1.

According to someone in stadium, Szpala was posted on the video board as referee and Tori Penso as 4th so there's a chance that was the original assignment for this match. They didn't mention the other names, but they probably didn't recognize them as we would.

Based on the LinkedIn profile I found, it's Vesia as per the PRO website.

22'ish: review recommended for penalty not given, Costa sticks with the decision on the field.

    Barkey in the VOR.

Given that he stuck with his decision, I find it really odd that only one angle was shown. Wouldn’t normal process to be to ask for another angle if you aren’t sure about the VAR’s recommendation?

Cannot wait to see how they handle that one on Inside Video Review!

You mean from an experienced ref and var team who have received proper training and have worked together and trust each other…yeah normally

AR2 slept through the delay portion of offside training or he’s a PSRA inside man. Having a howler.

This contact didn’t seem much different from the penalty given to Chicago vs. Cincinnati.

But, it’s definitely a bold choice to ignore a call down from the director of video review as a replacement referee.

The VAR generally talked to referee through the decision points during most of the reviews shown on Inside Video Review for last week’s game. It will be interesting to listen to the interaction and what Barkey said/thought when the call wasn’t changed. Did Barkey decide during the review that the call should stand and take the referee there? Did the referee reject Barkey’s input despite him telling him why it was a foul/penalty?
