With the Euros and Copa America concluding it's time for MLS to get baaaaa....errrr, what's that? OH I see. Hmmm... well...this is awkward. MLS has been playing through the whole time. Anyways, this past week saw Charlotte go into TQL Stadium and walk out with a convincing 3-1 winner over the Shield Holders and current front runners FCC. DC United and Toronto finally won again. Orlando's resurgence continued as they ran past those lowly Revs 3-1 in Foxboro. Portland bested Salt Lake in the Rose City 3-0. The Champs smacked the stars out of LAFC in Hollywood 5-1. The Whitecaps got a dominant 4-1 victory over CITY in St. Louis. This week has double the action with a full slate of Wednesday Night games along with a full Saturday Night card. The Champs and this seasons surprise contenders Charlotte will face off at Lower.com Field to get the week started. FC Dallas and Austin will continue their Lone Star State rivalry in Frisco. The Galaxy and the Rapids will tussle in Carson. Wednesday's action is concluded when LAFC hosts RSL. Saturday's slate has some decent matchups. The Canadian Classique will take place at Stade Saputo when Toronto FC comes to town to take on Montreal. Sporting KC and St Louis will renew their rivalry at Children's Mercy Park. The Rocky Mountain Cup battle between the Rapids and RSL will take place at DSG. Lumen Field will play host to LAFC when they take on the hometown Sounders. In the week's final match the Galaxy will host the Timbers. As usual all game times are eastern. National broadcasts & Free games are listed. All games can be viewed using MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. Kickoff times can be found here. MLS N&A play by play threads are neutral spaces. Keep all rivalry-esque banter out of these parts. Bullying. personal attacks and/or trolling will not be tolerated. DCU with the early break. Is this the first time MLS has done what I’ve been begging them to do for 20 years and done a midweek on the least important sports day of the year? A lá the EPL and their jam-packed Xmas-New Years run we should be doing the same from the 4th until this coming weekend. BTW Caitlin Clark is on ESPN Wednesday. Thx, Jay!
This week could provide a lot of needed clarity on the West - if not, it could become a real cluster********. #1 LAFC plays #2 and at #7 (realistically, I expect anything between 1-6 points) #2 RSL plays at #1 and at #4 (realistically, I expect anything from 0-6 points) #3 LAG plays #4 and #5 (realistically, I expect 3-6 points) #4 Colorado plays at #3 and #2 (realistically, I expect anything from 0-6 points) #5 Portland is off then plays at #3 (realistically, I expect anything from 0-3 points) #6 Vancouver plays #12 and #8 (realistically, I expect anything from 4-6 points) #7 Seattle plays #13 and #1 (realistically, I expect anything from 3-6 points) #8 Houston plays at #14 and at #6 (realistically, I expect anything from 1-4 points) #9 Minnesota plays East #13 and West #14 (realistically, I expect 6 points)
With the NYC game in the rear-view, the Fire don't have a home game at their primary stadium until August 31. Hard to imagine a better way to make an American soccer team less popular than never playing at home in the summer.
Oh look, Max Bretos and Dunny doing the Sounders game. What is old is new again. At least this week I can switch to the Sounders radio broadcast. (I believe that chart also lists the game time wrong for the Sounders and St Louis).
BREAKING: Philadelphia Union talent Cavan Sullivan will be in the first team matchday squad for the Union's match against the New England Revolution, head coach Jim Curtin says.Sullivan, 14, scored in back-to-back games for the second team."He's earned it," Curtin said. pic.twitter.com/Hop6jGdDal— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) July 16, 2024
Highs in the upper 70s tomorrow and Saturday. I'd take gametime temps in the 90s (rare as that is on the lakefront) over the early and late-season games when it's in the 30s and 40s every time regardless.

Feels like we're going to learn a lot about LAFC tonight. After getting taken apart by Columbus, they need a good showing against RSL, who are certainly going to be up for it. If LAFC doesn't rebound, they could start heading in the wrong direction quickly.
What a horrid turnover by Montreal playing out of the back, which should have resulted in a Red Bull goal.
Well, they want to payback RSL, and by extension, the MLS league office for making them play in the Snow Bowl back in March. Besides, when Olivier Giroud blows into town, LAFC could take off and leave the Western chasers in the dust....or not!
So glad this pk is going to be undone. There is NO WAY that was a penalty. But only taken back because of the offside.
The announcer feed has cut out in the Columbus-Charlotte game (can still hear the fans). It's actually rather nice. I'm hoping that happens in the Seattle game as well..
