After 2 games, DC, Montreal, Toronto, and Charlotte all have 4 points. Who would have thought that prior to game #1?
Happy for S Johnson to get a good couple of shifts… also there are so many LAFC castaways making a difference all over the league, even their GM seemingly turned the fortunes of the LA Galaxy..
I kept checking for the next match. Really? That's how this meh week of MLS comes to an end? Fitting.
Handball is a YC if it stops or interferes with a promising attack, whether or not it's deliberate (which this was not). So penalty call correct, yes, but there's a question of misconduct (and the player *was* already on a yellow, albeit a very bogus one).
His hand took it off the head of a DC player. Cant interfere any more obviously. And how is raising your hand in the box to call for offside not deliberate? He may not have meant to hit the ball but he certainly meant to put his hand in an unnatural position. Thx, Jay!
Because we don't call that deliberate anymore. That's really it. Back when all the "making oneself bigger" language started popping up, the Law still only said "deliberately handles the ball" so we were told that by choosing to put their arm in that position, it's to be considered deliberate should they handle it. When they rewrote Law 12, making oneself unnaturally bigger became a separate bullet point that need not be "deliberate," so "deliberate" is now considered more along the lines of moving one's arm *to* the ball versus putting your arm in an unfair position where the ball *could* hit it (taking a risk, as the Law says).
Caleb Porter’s New England grabbing 0 points against what were 2 of the absolute worst teams in the league last year (and who both brought nearly no one in this offseason) is an objectively bad start. Judging against expectations it’s likely the worst start in the league after 2 weeks.
I mean, I get what they are trying to do here. This year (actually last December) is the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, and this year's kits are named for that event. But, as usually happens with the Revs front office, "You really didn't think this one through, did you?"
This his genuinely been my theory for a while, at least the M part. There hasn’t been any actual reporting on this has there?
They had a Wednesday game in Panama and then had to fly up to DC for their first game with two days rest. Then this past week they played at home Thursday night and had two days rest before the game on Sunday. CCC takes it's toll. Of teams that have already started CCC only St. Louis and Cincy have posted a win so far this year. I mean it doesn't help that their starting forward is not MLS quality (yet alone DP quality) but they do have a bit of an excuse (and they have another game tomorrow, so no rest yet).
