Deal fell. I don't know if it was due to medicals or last minute salary disagreement or because the player truly wants to stay to compete in UCL as he claims. But this last point, if he wanted to compete in UCL why even entertain the offer and even go do medicals in another country?
Bogert reporting that add-on clauses could take this as high as $10.7M, plus there's a sell-on clause.

Still NO moves or attempted moves or rumors or whispers from the Chicago Fire. I know, I know, why would they need to make any moves with their spectacular symmetry?!? 25th place in the League 25 points 25 matches played

That Shaqiri contract is such a weight around their necks. With both Heitz and Shaqiri gone at the end of the season, hopefully we see some signs of life out of the Fire in the winter window.
Might be best to just let Heitz leave rather than commit more resources. Give the next guy maximum roster flexibility instead of freshly minted 3-4 year DP deals
I said before the season that I thought the Fire had 4 worthwhile players to build around - Brady, Teran, Gutierrez, and Haile-Selassie. Cuypers is a good add, Gutman would be if he could stay healthy, Arigoni is fine, and Herbers and Pineda are decent depth pieces who play way too many minutes. Everyone else could go tomorrow and the team wouldn't really suffer.
It seems like the Red Bulls are about to get snubbed by a Polish 2nd division striker. https://t.co/1WdYamzl6q— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) August 13, 2024 I don't know if this is good or bad for RB to get rejected by this type of player.
He says he wants to stay in Poland. He's turning down a lot of money. Players reject offers all the time.
And when the team being rejected used to employ Thierry Henry and the player is in the Polish second division it's very funny. This contrarianism thing you're doing lately is a real drag tbh
Your constant negativity is a drag. There's absolutely no comparison between a retired international being offered a final multi-million $ payday and a young prospect considering whether he wants to uproot himself to another continent when there are allegedly bigger clubs interested closer to home.
Sporting Kansas City is set to sign Joaquin Fernandez on a free transfer. The 28-year-old Spanish center back last played for Trabzonspor, where he appeared 17 times. Fernandez previously spent time in LaLiga with Real Valladolid as well. (@LucaBendoni) #SportingKC pic.twitter.com/tiycpqfZzg— MLS NETWORK (@mlsnetwork) August 13, 2024 John Brooks is still a free agent. Is he "too good" to be playing in MLS, asking too much or are MLS teams just not interested in a player that will not occupy an International spot? John Brooks in SKC would've been a good fit.
Is he married? Does he have kids? Do they speak English? Would he move his family to the US where he's never lived, or do a Steven Gerrard? There are lots of factors?
RSL waived Costa Rican left back Bryan Oviedo, who had some solid minutes for the team but was on an international slot which was needed (four guys coming in this window).

So, Brady, Teran, Gutierrez, Haile-Selassie, Cuypers, Gutman, Arigoni, Herbers and Pineda. "Everyone else could go tomorrow." I do think a team with only 9 players (and two of those being Herbers and Pineda) would really suffer!
But have you seen Chris Mueller play? A 10' by 10' patch of grass might actually be more useful to the team than whatever he's trying to do.
Sadly, yes I have seen him play, when he is not out injured for months on end. He may be less useful than a patch of bare grass, but he is more useful than F. Navarro or "Mighty" Tom Barlow, though Maybe the 9 players you mentioned would not be hurt with everyone else gone after all. We would not win many games with just 9 players, but we don't win many with a full roster, either!
Well, one VERY EXPENSIVE player down Chicago Fire FC today announced that the Club and Xherdan Shaqiri have agreed to terminate the midfielder’s contract. “After discussions with Xherdan, we have mutually agreed that parting ways is in the best interest of all parties,” said Chicago Fire FC Sporting Director Georg Heitz. “We thank him for his contributions to the Club and wish him success in the next chapter of his career." Shaqiri, 32, originally joined the Fire as a Designated Player on Feb. 9, 2022, via transfer from Olympique Lyonnais (Ligue 1, France). The Swiss international appeared in 75 matches (63 starts) for the Fire across all competitions, scoring 16 goals and registering 20 assists. “I believe this is the right time for me to explore new opportunities in my career,” said Shaqiri. “I want to thank the Club and the fans for their support during my time in Chicago. I wish the Fire nothing but success moving forward.” The biggest thing with dumping him today is that it clears both a DP spot for the future (can't get much done now, sadly) and, for now, a roster spot. They should have done it during the Euros, so he could catch on with another team at the start of the European Transfer Window. I suspect he will cash a nice paycheck in Saudi Arabia, a smaller paycheck in Turkey or a small paycheck in Switzerland. Good luck to him.
