Well, a no-call certainly played some part in their losing. If you didn't see the highlights, check them out. Atlanta scored the game-winner (and ultimately the series winner) on a play where a Miami defender went down in the box (either cramping or with a hamstring pull of some kind), and five pink shirts just stood there with their arms up waiting for the referee to bail them out and blow the whistle. He didn't, Atlanta kept playing, and a cross and a header later, the fat lady was singing. As Steven Moreira will tell you, play to the whistle.
If you can’t defend (or bother to even get back to try) and aren’t very mobile, you ain’t gonna play in important moments. Simple as that. Modern game is too fast for that.
And Messi played for Argentina. I said in preseason that Miami would be judged on their playoffs success. We all know a top heavy and old roster can dominate MLS in the regular season, but when was the last time a roster constructed like that won MLS Cup? LA Galaxy in 2014? A lot has changed in 10 years. I’m not one bit surprised this team that relies on 4 dudes that are all 35+ ran out of gas and lost.
I’m so happy Atlanta scored that way. The rules are clear, and Miami stopped playing and decided to cry to the ref for something he didn’t need to call. This is 100% on Miami, and if any of Messi, Suarez, or Busquets actually put some defensive pressure on anybody, this might not have happened. They were arrogant and complacent. Simple as.
I watched the game. 6 for Miami was trying to stop play and went down without contact. No reason for the ref to stop play.
I hope it’s his last game there but …. FC Cincinnati and Acosta agreed to a contract extension through 2026, with an option for 2027. So who they selling him too ? Liga MX team ? I don’t see him going to Europe he is 30. I think this is more of him being upset but if they sell him I’m all for it, they will suck without him.
Also, I wonder if the scuffle that happened after Miami scored to tie the match, had any influence on Atlanta continuing to attack (versus kicking the ball out of bounds) with the Miami player down.
I hate when teams kick it out to be nice. I’m beyond happy they 1) scored a goal this way and 2) it was against Miami.
I completely agree. Minnesota and Orlando are two teams I would not want to play as they are playing some of their best soccer now... even during the regular season, they played well against the 'Gals.... I would put LAFC vs Minnesota and Orlando vs NYC.. with the final being Orlando vs LAFC with LAFC winning
A two armed extended shove in the back is pretty flagrant. The ol' two figure up salute in the goalies face is pretty bad too.
I’ve not paid any attention to MLS since the Crew crashed out. It was only tonight that I saw that Atl-Mia result. ******** Miami. Thrilled they lost.
Guys - Miami/Messi was just a red herring so Dong Arber can finally get his LA v NY MLS Cup he so desperately wanted without all the backlash. Masterclass Dong Arber! /s
I bet he thinks the way the CWC spot was decided was completely fair though. Maybe next time don't stand around in the box demanding a whistle for a phantom injury while the opponent is still attacking.
I saw this before I went to bed Saturday night. Didn't take long for the whining to start. Miami got to play against the worst team in the field, on five days' rest, while the opponent had to play Saturday, elimination game Tuesday, road game 1 Friday. In a format where you need to win two games to advance, the schedule/format/standings basically SPOTTED them one win. And then after only losing four league matches all year, they lost consecutive matches to Atlanta, who were four games below .500 in the same season. So yeah. I'm sure a high-paid player on an engineered superclub who just won its conference would prefer a format where the conference winners play each other. And I'd prefer to be a hundred pounds lighter and be married to Alexandra Daddario. Means nothing. Everyone knows the rules going in. Miami lost. No one felt sorry for us, so I'm damn sure not going to feel sorry for them.
I'm going to ask again, since no one seemed to answer me the first time: What is this "fun-sized" shit?
What's a different f word that could be used here? It was a joke someone posted maybe a month ago, and several people have run with it.
If you've read Jody Taylor's Time Police series, the characters use "fire truck" as a euphemism. I do recommend it, BTW. It's likely that her readership includes teens (and perhaps younger), so this is one way around that potential issue.
