And the thing was, Miami probably was the better team on the day. They had a number of chances that I feel like they would have buried a lot of the time. Messi had multiple free kicks that were wasted, a couple glorious chances that Guzan saved that he usually converts, and only scored on a free header that was harder to miss than make. Along with Miami hitting a couple posts. But the thing is... when you can't defend for shit, you have to be absolutely clinical with those chances to overcome the goals you give up. And for the most part, Miami did that, because they had the ability to score from nothing a lot of the time. So they were able to paper over a lot of games that way, but even the most clinical team in the world isn't going to be able to do it every single game. And in a playoff format, when one loss can end your season, a lack of finishing will kill you. Hell, I'm a Crew fan, and we found that out last weekend.
I guess so. The press release when he signed has him born in 2003. https://www.fcdallas.com/northtexas...lder-pedrinho-from-brazilian-side-cr-flamengo
Well 34 points separate them and it was 9 vs 1 with two games in Florida. I don't think you've ever had a number nine in the playoffs but the last two years. It was also the norm to say 45 points was needed to make the playoffs and Miami did just set the record for points in a season. This was judged to be TRUE.
Jordi Alba Calls MLS Playoffs Format “Unfair” After Lionel Messi & Inter Miami’s MLS Cup Elimination, Suggests New Rules Here comes the crying. Everyone knows the rules. Miami got to play against a weaker opponent, with a serious rest/fatigue advantage in game one because Atlanta had to play a Wild Card game, and had three playoff games, two of which were at home. Miami lost TWICE. Cry more.
Not being able to beat the 9 seed in a best of 3 and then crying about how the playoff format is unfair is definitely a choice.
I'm disappointed that I missed all the regulation time goals in the last 2 matches Saturday. My trivia team was playing Saturday night and insisted I show up. We had 42 points after 5 rounds and trailed the leaders by 3. When the 10th and final round concluded, we had won with 85 points and beat the second place team by 5. I guess it was worth it, but I digress.... Watching the highlights of the games from Orlando and Miami had me ruing the fact that I missed some compelling stuff on the pitch. The lengthy VAR review which led to the Orlando PK save but rebounded stick-back by Facundo Torres had all the makings of a suspense thriller. After that, it was the Pedro Gallese Show as he stoned Biel and Swiderski to help the Lions advance. Seeing Miami and Atlanta pound in 3 goals in a 4-minute span is the kind of action that might make non-soccer fans take notice and appreciate the sport. Once again, the grind of a 34-game regular season, with other competitions sprinkled into the mixer makes MLS a great league to watch in terms of its sheer unpredictability. Just as New England failed to make it to the MLS Cup final in 2021 after setting the regular season points record, Inter Miami duplicated the feat with a stunning loss to Atlanta United, who needed a miracle to even make the playoff field this year (a disallowed stoppage time goal by Orlando on Decision Day would have kept ATL out and put DC United into the playoffs). Now, we seem to think the MLS brain trust changes its playoff format every other year. Let's see if 2025 brings changes to the post-season qualifying and scheduling aspects of the playoffs. Something tells me we shouldn't be surprised if the format is altered (yeah, I'm a cynic on this, but we'll see what happens, if anything).
No PKs either. Straight loss. I must say, I find Alba a bigger douche than Saurez by a wide margin. I did not expect that. And they got handed the CWC spot by FIFA.
Cry more. every format has flaws. I like this one for the first round. No valid excuses for the eliminated teams.
No one is crying for the eliminated teams. Teams like Columbus and Cincinnati were cooked even if we had aggregate home and away play offs or single game elimination play offs. Some of us just don't like the best of 3. Even players have said the same thing, and no, I'm not talking about those players that lose.
Imagine if we just had three weeks of do-or-die knockout and could now prepare for MLS Cup after the international break.
I’m not crying and I never thought you would pick up edgelord euphemisms. How very zinneal of you. Your shit retort doesn’t make my opinion any less valid. The three game system only serves to increase the amount of games for TV. That’s it. The playoffs should be at a maximum 14 teams and single elimination. That’s it. Or you do 8 teams and a full best of three until the final. This added nonsense is the worst of all options. It doesn’t matter about who is eliminated and who isn’t. Miami and Vancouver are different sides of the same shit coin. All of those games that went to PKs for literally no reason are a prime shining example of how the system sucks. Maybe they can tweak it again and have the shootout return. Wouldn’t that be entertaining?
There are valid complaints on all formats. I’d prefer to look on the bright side. 1) It’s just the first round. 2)It makes for more games. 3)It lets every team create some local memories with at least one home game. 4)Its created amazing drama. 5) I also appreciate that the playoffs don’t end as quickly as they start. You play a long season for the playoffs it was lame when it basically ended quickly after only single elimination. Then after the first round you get your preferred single elimination format for the final 8. Win win for everyone.
Not every team can finish in the top 12. Extending the playoffs means that fans have skin in game for as long as possible. This year is a bit of a cluster flick. Normally the better teams take their form into the playoffs and the lower finishing teams get knocked out early. I don't think we've had a recent MLS Cup winner that finished outside the top 8 in the Supporters Shield. Atlanta finished 20th. If they win it's definitely an anomaly. Ideally I'd like 16 teams with 4 single leg rounds, with the final the weekend after the international break.
Yeah. If you don’t finish above the playoff line you miss the playoffs. That sucks. As DC fan it really doesn’t matter if that line is 12/14/19. We are going to finish below it. It took the last game of the season to do it. So I don’t care if the shit teams don’t have a late season lifeline.
