To be fair, it was announced as a sellout, and previous soccer sellouts have topped 70. But those had temporary seats and the removable seating open. The usual sellout number is 68 for soccer with the upper deck open.

about 2 500 below the season average- i am sure the MLS office will be watching the numbers as they hash out whether or not to move to a late Summer-Spring season with a mid-winter break

Thanks Paul. I did my counts in my head. So apparently I was close. I'll use the calculator on my phone to double check.
Looks like the first playoff HRD will not be able to fully capitalize on attendance potential. 1856367611002417493 is not a valid tweet id

I can understand playing second fiddle to the team after whom the stadium is named. But moving to the Mets' ballpark because of a college football game when you're an actual tenant at Yankee Stadium 2.0 is hilarious. And it's not like this is a surprise mid-week tournament game. The potential playoff dates were known. Why couldn't they have played the soccer match on Sunday with football stripes on the pitch?
I haven't seen an official attendance figure for the Hudson River playoff at Citi Field. Attendance was supposed to be capped at 22,500 for various reasons. Assuming the game was a complete sellout, that would give Saturday's figures this: New York City (vs. New York Red Bulls) 22,500 Los Angeles FC (vs. Seattle) 22,301 TOTAL FOR THE DAY: 44,801 AVERAGE: 22,401 PLAYOFF TOTAL: 565,580 AVERAGE: 23,566
They announced 2,500 additional seats at Citi Field on Wednesday, so the capacity was 25,000. The rest of the stadium was closed due to "winter maintenance" which I interpret as "fear of visible empty seats".
thats a good average number for the latter part of Fall where many of us thought the playoff attendance would be much lower - the regular season was 23 342
