I was waiting to see if there would be a VAR review over whether or not the America keeper carried the ball outside the box before punting it.
not sure why the hell the defender attempted a bicycle kick on that open net clearance.. just need to delay for a bit Better showing than last time for St Louis.. What a night.. not sure where the best match is.. a night of great Futbol
Agreed that it was probably risky tactically, but he probably also knew that he was in the dying seconds of stoppage time, and merely slowing the attacker down wasn't good enough; he needed to gain possession and go the other way immediately to have a chance.
And on to the elite eight. Locked in. 🔒@LeaguesCup quarterfinals take place on Saturday. pic.twitter.com/sYiBd4J4Lw— Major League Soccer (@MLS) August 14, 2024
And just like last year you have one big name from Liga MX in the quarterfinals (Club America), and one cinderella (Mazatlan). Shame St. Louis couldn’t hold on.
Leagues Cup in Mexico? https://www.record.com.mx/futbol-fu...tidos-de-leagues-cup-a-mexico#google_vignette I feel like we have heard this before. Usually right around the time when Liga MX has to defend Leagues Cup participation to its audience in Mexico. Are Liga MX owners truly tired of having their clubs take on the function as Washington Generals across MLS venues? In the end they usually pick the money option.

This thing is only two years old. It doesn’t have a “usually” yet. Man, you hate this thing so, so much, it’s funny. I, on the other hand, enjoy watching compelling sports, so I like it. Columbus-Inter was a fantastic spectacle in the last half hour.

You know what would be great? Expanding this thing. Get rid of the CCL altogether, open up all those midweek dates. Instead, add the top 4 teams from Costa Rica and 3 teams from Honduras and 2 teams from Jamaica and a team from the CPL etc. Have 32 groups of 3. Play that out over 2 weeks to get down to 64 teams. Go back to league play for a month and sort out the logistics of the now-64 team knockout. Play that out over 3 weeks. MLS clubs that have been knocked out can have a match or two each to “play in” to the USOC, or as part of the Canadian Cup. Obvisouly this thing wouldn’t be solely within the US. That would be much better IMO than the CCL we have now. Condense this thing like the NCAA tournament. In my opinion.
It's not about being anti MLS, it's being anti League Cup. You have a fair continental tournament and now we get suggestions like SuperDave trying to get rid of a) our not so premier champions league b) home field advantages c) put teams that can't afford to have huge spending go into some sort of march madness nonsense in the US. My personal annoyance is more so with LigaMX, for years many of us who follow CCL have asked for LigaMX to be properly allocated by coefficient the right amount of slots but instead they sell out for a cashgrab. that is what is frustrating about this whole thing especially because the players do not care for this tournament.
Manchester United are alleged to have made $12.7 million from their brief US trip. I guess they could have stayed at home and played against lower division teams to help them with their finances or raised money for charity, other than through the Community Shield, but ya know "cash grab". Now the Premier League is talking about moving the Community Shield or even switching to an all-star game so that it doesn't interfere with lucrative overseas tours. Professional sport is a cash grab.
