For the first time in almost 8 years the Rapids have advanced in a knockout competition against MLS or international competition.

I see some folks having second thoughts about Leagues Cup and not caring. Intensity of the games is there and players want to win. Tomorrow's wrap of the opening round of group play between Nashville vs. New England has all kinds of scenarios still at play. Nashville need to win by two goals to move on, otherwise back to Nashville until MLS resumes.

It was de facto knockout but technically still group stage.

What I mean is advancing in a competition where teams get knocked out of it (aka not a league setup).

Colorado played well last night and were the better team for most the game. The goal Leon scored was not exactly without controversy. Credit to the team on not giving up and scoring one to remember for the ages. Bombito had a dominate game last night, he looks like everything that the hype has claimed. Also Steffen looks like he's regaining his form as he had a man of the match performance last night in my opinion.

In US League setups (and Australian, Mexican, etc..)..... teams get eliminated from, or are knocked out of playoff spots though......

    No

Is it Leagues, or is it a Cup? We'll never know.

Liga MX teams don't care about Leagues Cup?

For all the talk from some quarters of Liga MX not taking this seriously they're going to get 11 of 18 teams through (I suppose there's some ay Mazatlán isn't through yet but I'm not sure what it is). You'd expect 12 in the round of 32 given the difference in league sizes so they're basically right on track.

Mazatlán clinched going through since they bettered the Revs win over them. There is no result tonight that sees the Revs and Nashville both go through.

I predict a Mexican team wins the whole thing and we’ll see “take that, Garber!!!” responses. As if a Liga MX team winning was something the organizers never envisioned in their efforts to promote a tournament to capitalize on the popularity of Mexican soccer in the U.S. :ROFLMAO:

Correct, Nashville needs to win by 2 or more goals to advance, which would knock out the Revs on GD. Anything less, and Nashville is out.

I know. Some people seem to think MLS hoodwinked Liga MX into taking part.

That's what I thought but the official website doesn't show them as qualified yet so I figured there must be some result still that could eliminate them, though I couldn't figure out what that would be.

"cucked" is the word most commonly used to describe Liga MX participation in Leagues Cup.

Why is there Leagues Cup tonight? Did some home & garden show already have a stadium booked for a few days ago?

(Not that I'm complaining, mind you. I'd be happy to have 15 straight days of Leagues Cup.)

Regardless of tonight's result, Mazatlan has clinched a spot in the knockouts.
    • If Nashville doesn't win in regulation, then New England wins the group and Mazatlan advances in second place.
    • If Nashville wins by 1, Mazatlan wins the group and New England advances in second place.
    • If Nashville wins by 2, Mazatlan wins the group and Nashville advances in second place.
    • If Nashville wins by 3 or more, Nashville wins the group and Mazatlan advances in second place.

I think the website only shows the x and y for clinching first and second, and not clinching qualification (side note - I'm used to sports using the y- for clinching a division and the x- for only clinching a playoff spot so seeing them reversed is also odd to me) so that's why even though they definitely have clinched.

I'd like to add I'm thrilled to see Chivas eliminated by LA and San Jose because I still remember all their "We're going to teach MLS how to play futbol" nonsense when Chivas USA was first announced.

Spent all day bitching about how I couldn’t find DC United’s 32rd opponent only to discover they’re playing tonight. Promptly forgot it was 7:30:after I tuned in at 7. Watch staggered, go MLS!
