It's 2 points for a penalty win, 1 for a penalty loss, no? So if RSL beat Atlas on penalties that's 2 points then a penalty loss to us means 1 point for a total of 3 compared to our 2. We're out. Or did you mean Atlas beats RSL on penalties so 1 point there plus 1 against us, we're on 2 so it's a tie and you go to whatever the tiebreaker is.
Tigres vs Miami at NRG became a lot less popular with Messi out. You can get tickets at pretty steep discounts to face value now.
Your right. I meant to say Atlas beating RSL in penalties. I had it wrong in my original post — where I said Dynamo had to win outright. The whole thing has clearly given me more headaches than it should.
Atlas completely ran out of gas in the second half against RSL. Could not even sniff a look after RSL scored a screamer in the upper 90 from midfield. RSL 2:1 Atlas. So: RSL 3pts, +1, 2gf ATL 3pts, 0, 2 gf HOU 0pts, -1, 0 gf Dynamo advance as group winner IF they beat RSL by 2. Atlas will advance in 2d place. If RSL wins or draws then Dynamo are out, RSL wins group, Atlas in 2d. Now the confusing scenarios with a Dynamo 1 goal win: HOU 1: 0 RSL. RSL and Atlas advance on goals for. HOU 2: 1 RSL. RSL wins group. Atlas takes 2nd on head-to-head OR FairPlay points are determinative, depending on how the ambiguous tie-breakers are interpreted. HOU 3:2 RSL (or greater goals) RSL wins group. Atlas takes 2nd on head-to-head OR Houston advances on goals for, depending on how the ambiguous tie-breakers are interpreted. So my bottom line is that the Dynamo need to win by 2 or more. If anyone sees a pronouncement from the leagues on how the tie-breakers work for determining 2nd place in a 3-way tie please post it.

All right. Buried deep in the Leagues Cup website is a set of regulations for 2024 and the tie-breaker section is slightly different. So, it has been argued to me by someone studying this that the underlined language makes it clear that we DO NOT decide 2nd place as a two-team tie. Therefore, we use the tie-breaker list to determine all three positions in the table. I don't think it is 100% clear, but the inference is stronger now. So, assuming that is right: THEREFORE, Dynamo beat RSL by 2 or more, Dynamo win the group. Dynamo beat RSL 1:0 then Dynamo eliminated and, - If RSL get no cards then RSL 1st, Atlas 2nd. - If RSL gets 1 yellow then a draw determines 1st and 2nd between RSL and Atlas. - If RSL gets 2 or more yellows or a red then Atlas 1st, RSL 2nd. Dynamo beat RSL by 1 and score 3, the RSL wins group, Dynamo 2nd. Dynamo beat RSL 2:1 then RSL wins the group: - If Dynamo don't take a card, Dynamo finish 2nd; - If Dynamo take 1 yellow card, then 2nd place is determined by a draw; - If Dynamo take 2 or more yellows or a red, then Atlas is 2nd. Dynamo lose to, or draw RSL, the RSL is 1st place and Atlas is 2nd.
I don't remember the US Open Cup being this confusing. Another reason this trash ass cup needs to go away.
Imagine not advancing because you gave the keeper a time wasting yellow card up in the 94th minute or something stupid like that. all that said, I want the dynamo to win because I don’t want them to have to go multiple weeks without any games, they need to work
So, what happens if the Dynamo pull off the result needed and qualify for R32? If they win the group, Dynamo host Kansas City or Toluca — taking the loser of that game being played at the same time as Dynamo v RSL. The date of this R32 game is TBD. If they come in second, Dynamo travel to San Diego to play Club America at Snapdragon Stadium on Aug 9. For anyone considering — I’ve been to Snapdragon Stadium and it is a beautiful fantastic soccer venue.
I agree with 7s. Three-team groups are a nightmare. The fact is that the Dynamo and RSL could easily negotiate a pre-agreed result that sees them both through. I don't think they will -- but if it is 2:1 late in the game and the Dynamo have no yellow card -- then why should either team risk anything? If RSL gives up a third goal they drop to 2nd place and go on the road to Club America. If the Dynamo give up a goal or take a yellow they go out. I happen to think both Mastroeni and Olsen would not want to go that way -- but that would be only because hubris. They should do what is the interest of their club. If a 2nd-half cease fire occurs only the tournament hucksters are to blame.
Dynamo @ Toluca (in Houston @ Shell Energy Stadium) is Friday night. Time tbd. Winner plays the winner of Juarez v Colorado. For me? I would not mind the Dynamo getting knocked out in R32. Get 2 weeks of rest before the important games return.

This has worked out well for the Dynamo. LAFC and COR having two games added to their late season run-in can't hurt. Especially LAFC. Normally I would consider LAFC probably out-of-reach for the Dynamo this season. But with both games left with them -- and them having greater fixture congestion -- if we can manage 4 points off of them then I think we have a chance. COR, along with VCW, are the two teams we most likely have to beat out. If we catch LAFC then maybe even P3 this year.
