Weird thing happened with the Sox today - Danny Jansen became the first player in MLB history to play for both teams in the same game.

He started for Toronto and was at bat in the 2nd inning when the game was suspended. The game was resumed today, prior to which Jansen was traded to Boston - and he was the starting catcher. Because Jansen was not available to continue his at-bat for Toronto, they had to pinch-hit for him.

Wonder if that could happen in MLS?

    You mean he wasn't cup-tied?

I was referring to Jansen. I heard of a time a player was traded in between games of a doubleheader and played the second game for the other team, but not in the same game.

Would the NBA have this rule fir their hybrid cup/league tournament? I'm guessing probably not, since the "cup" games also count as league games.

I had a German boss who was visiting when the Sox were in the World Series and he referred to it as "The Baseball Cup." Hey, we WON the Baseball Cup!
