I've come around on him a little bit. I'd like to see him get some new players in though. The roster needs some retooling - fewer older guys who keep getting hurt. They really need to move on from Kaye - and of course someone who can put the ball in the net.
Absolutely. It is very much frustrating to me that as of today, they've made no signings. I see other teams doing it and it makes me anxious. So far on that front, it's only talk.
But Porter promised us 5 summer signings! I guess his mouth shouldn't be writing checks that Onalfo can't cash...
What about that guy from Boca Juniors? Or the other guy from Bordeaux? They might be saying, "the window hasn't closed yet, so we still have time," but we needed an influx of quality like yesterday...
Mike Burns, or erm, Curt Onalfo has plenty of time. The window just opened. He only just started looking at players who might be available and need to figure out who might be a good fit Speaking of Burns, he's already made his first move in KC
With Nashville losing 2-0 to Mazatlan at home yesterday, were the Revs to lose next Tuesday at home, they could be out of the tournament. Revs are currently in first based on the H-2-H matchup with Mazatlan. Both teams have 3 points, and a +1. While many teams have only played one game (and a couple haven't even done that yet), there are some teams that have already qualified into the next round or being eliminated. So far, DC and Austin are moving on, and Dallas, RBNY and Puebla have been eliminated.
I think the Revs have to lose by 2 to be eliminated. If all 3 teams have 3 points, it comes down to Goal Differential, and NSH is currently -2.
So if it's a draw, but the Revs lose on PKs, with Nashville getting the "win," all 3 would be 1-1 with 3 points. But with goal difference, the Revs would win the tiebreaker. But if Nashville wins on PKs, does that count as an extra goal in the GD column? Anyone still have that banner from ancient times, "Let ties be ties, NO shootouts"?
Shoot out wins are worth fewer points than regulation wins. If the revs are even after regulation ends they go through no matter the PK results
Mazatlán advance no matter what. Code: Revs lose by 2: Pos Team . . . . W PW PL L GD Pts 1 . Mazatlán . . 1 0 0 1 +1 3 2 . Nashville SC 1 0 0 1 0 3 3 . New England. 1 0 0 1 -1 3 Revs lose by 1: Pos Team . . . . W PW PL L GD Pts 1 . Mazatlán . . 1 0 0 1 +1 3 2 . New England. 1 0 0 1 0 3 3 . Nashville SC 1 0 0 1 -1 3 Revs lose in shootout: Pos Team . . . . W PW PL L GD Pts 1 . New England. 1 0 1 0 +1 4 2 . Mazatlán . . 1 0 0 1 +1 3 3 . Nashville SC 0 1 0 1 -2 2
Is there a reason why the REVs don’t play game 2 until next Tuesday? Had to push it closer to the Patriots game to justify playing on NFL lines?
MATCHDAY GUIDE | Revs vs. Nashville SC (Leagues Cup Group Stage) Jeff Lemieux posted: Thursday, Aug 1, 2024, 01:30 PM
Last time we played a team that was on a serious losing streak .. we know how that game in Philly ended.
With the Revs advancing even with a 1-0 loss I am looking forward to a 5 at the back bunker right from the start
It's not a Porter thing. This team has no clue how to bunker, see Arena's set up in Mexico when up 3-0 after the first leg. The defense has been the weak link for years, even though we're spending good money on it.
It's a Porter thing that he keeps TRYING to bunker. Just keep playing it forward as best you can cause, you are correct, this team has had a defensive weak link for YEARS. It hasn't been fixed. Don't bunker.
No, he doesn't. Every time he talks about it (5 in the back) in a press conference, he says, "We've had success doing that."
So with another weekend of play done ... we're starting to get more of an idea about who is and isn't going to continue playing. 5 groups (including the Revs obviously) have to still be finalized ... four of them set for tonight, Revs match tomorrow. Round of 32 starts up for some teams on Wednesday. If we finish second in the group, we'll play DC. Even though 10 groups that are finished, 11 teams have been eliminated, 5 of them MLS.
Yeah, Nashville hasn't scored multiple goals in a game since putting 2 past TOR on June 19th, so I'm expecting them to score 5 tomorrow night. Chance of rain, temps in the 60's at game time.
So if I understand correctly, the home games (between MLS teams) in the knockout round I believe are based on the tiering system from last season. So if I'm right and we get out of the group it doesn't matter if we finish first, it's as simple as if we're playing NYCFC it's at home, if it's Cincy, it's on the road. If we finish second, we actually host DC (who won their group).
