What's the rule on "double jeopardy" these days? Should the DOGSO 2CT + PK in the 92nd minute instead been a DOGSO RC + PK since the defender made no attempt to play the ball? The defender in question was already on a YC, so it's just semantics, but the foul itself was worthy of being a straight RC.

Emphasis on “very”. Dickerson was behind the play (not really his fault, as it was an unexpected turnover and a fast transition), and the last shot of him on video makes it seem like he was straight-lined. But AR2 would have had a good angle to determine a challenge or not. If I were AR2 and asked for assistance, I would have advised sendoff. But practically, the end result is the same (Pumas player walks) regardless of DOGSO-CT or DOGSO-R.
Two handball penalties whistled for América in the second half. The first is reviewed and overturned for being above the bottom of the armpit. The second is handled off of what looks like a deliberate play off his own leg having previously come off the head of a teammate. The penalty stood and gave América the lead.

Selvin Brown at the center of attention in Chester as he gives Tai Baribo a yellow and then straight red on back to back attempted attacking corner kicks for the union. Straight red goes to VAR and overturned to second yellow/red. Going to be a cagey second half.
The best part is I don't even think the second yellow is misconduct at all. The VAR recommends a review because he doesn't think it's a straight red, but did he still have a YC, or did Brown reach that conclusion on his own at the monitor, as is his prerogative?
maybe why it took so long… VAR trying unsuccessfully to tell him no card. On the positive side, the MLS 10 man advantage extends to Leagues Cup.
I had/have the same opinion but didn’t want to show my union bias for those who had not seen the sequence. Is there any disco for leagues cup? Would this even be eligible?
Baribo's red card is a mess, but honestly the first caution was softer than the second one. The behind the goal angle on the second one looks sufficient for a ref to say, "look, I just cautioned him for that, and he turns around and does *the exact same thing.* Obviously Brown doesn't get to see the replay of the first one to realize Baribo is being set up. But the real reason it is a mess is the overall optics. Mazatlán has won red cards relatively early in the last three games. Vs. DC, Stroud got sent off at like '29 or something for a flailing arm swat that he deserved, but was definitely goaded into. Vs. Cruz Azul, a second caution that was... well, deserved, but could also have been pocketed. Very start of second half. A dumb SPA kind of card but one that could have been an AC (although try that at your own risk in this tournament, which is apparently what Brown is thinking). So now you are in game 3, the ref is falling for Mazatlans dives and antics, he gives a caution for the check on the first CK, and then sends the dude for a very similar check on the next one, and 3 games in a row Mazatlan has a man advantage for significant amount of time. Edit to add: I just saw Parchment was VAR. Wow. To get him to do an intervention is saying something.
I was always under the impression that Parchment just took VAR assignments to be able to watch the game on bigger TVs. (I’m kidding, but not all that much.)
