I think it depends on the opponent. If they press, we seem to struggle to play out of the back. If they sit back (like Toronto), we fail to break them down. Now wonder we stink, eh? It's not that other teams have figured out "the" way to beat us. They can beat us any way they like! So CBs who are better with the ball could help us break a press and then attack against an exposed opponent. But in a game like the Toronto game, I agree that it won't do much for us.

Rather, to me, it really seemed to be about making this smoldering turd of a team into something competitive in the SHORT TERM. So, while I recognize your examples as “transactions” that could eventually pay off, I would find them unsatisfying in the immediate and the short term. If that is truly what Porter meant then he really is a “Kraft” guy. He fits like a glove.
My point is, the roster is full, so they would need to get rid of 5 players in order to bring in 5 new players. They can only buyout one. So they would have to find takers for the other 4, and suitors aren't exactly banging down to the door to get players from the worst team in the league. Sure, they can release a kid from the supplemental roster, like they did with Jackson, but that is not going to free up any salary cap (budget) space for a TAM level player. Due to the rule change, they now have two additional U-22 slots, but they would have to move two players like Romney and Kaye to make cap space.

On "This is MLS", while discussing Portland Timbers, Taylor Twellman suggested they will be acquiring one or two CBs this summer, probably from within MLS. No names were mentioned, but I'm wondering if Romney could be headed west? Window opens in 6 weeks (July 18th).
We already have 5 center backs (and no 3rd dmid that Porter trusts, apparently). If we're getting more, some will have to be moving out. We have so much money tied up in that position that I'm skeptical of Twellman's suggestion. I'm wondering if that view was from before Arriaga had seemingly nailed down one of the spots ...
I think you misunderstood me. Twellman was saying Portland is after CBs, not Revs. My speculation is that one of the CBs Portland is looking at is Romney (since it appears he is on the trading block). He has played well the last 2 games, so that should increase his trade value.

Look there's no doubt that this team needs help. But at the end of the day, I'm not quite giving up on this season. If I were to do that, in my mind, I'd have given up on a year of Carles' career and I hate that thought. This league hasn't had the chance to see too many players of his caliber, and let's be honest, we don't know the next time we'll get one. So I'm going to keep hoping that they can continue to head in the right direction and somehow they can find 2-3 (4?) players during the window that will help with a second half resurgence.
Finding a new home for Vrioni is easier said than done. What team needs an unproductive striker on a high, DP salary? Unless we agree to take the cap hit, I'm not sure we can move him. Besides, that would leave us with only Bobby Wood (and maybe Chancalay) up top, unless we can sign another Adam Buksa over the summer...

Yes! Considering things haven't worked out as well as everyone hoped, he might be available and willing to come back. But since we sold him and used the money (at least in part) for Vrioni, I don't think we'd have his rights anymore.
He struggled with injuries in France so he basically missed an entire year. In his absence they found success, and the group didn't change too much coming into this season. Finding a loan to let him get his feet back made sense. This year he was healthy and scored 16 in 30 games for Antalysaspor. Good enough for Poland to call him up the last 2 windows. He started and went 90 against Ukraine last Friday. If he isn't in Lens' plans and decides he wants to try MLS again I'd love to have him. But I kind of doubt he's available for a price we can afford, and have a suspicion he lacks the inclination to return to our side of the Atlantic just yet
I think we underestimate the effect Bou had on our offense. Yes, he was injured/returning-to-form a lot, but when he was healthy he made the whole defense respect him and that provided openings for everyone else. I'm not giving up on Vrioni - I still think the solution is a better functioning offense that can provide consistent pressure (so Vrioni doesn't feel like every chance he gets could be the only one he gets). People forget that even with Twellman , it almost always took him a good 4-5 quality chances to score. His 100 goals is more a tribute to a complete offense that was threatening from multiple angles (and the proof is that Noonan scored at a similar rate when put in a similar position).
But Twellman could make the most out of a half-chance. Sure, he could put away the great chances, but there were lots of times when goals would come out of the least expected situations. I remember one game vs Dallas where we were down by a goal around the 88th minute, and he managed to score out of nowhere to tie it. Instead of sitting back, being grateful for the draw when it looked like we were going to lose, Twellman scored again in stoppage time to win it!
Remember Vrioni was our next Buksa. Vrioni had some success in Europe at lower levels, someone will want him eventually. No doubt his agent is throwing his name around for a summer move

Glad to see we're not the only ones that think we need better players at CDM, and that the team recognizes it too. Don't know enough about the player to comment on his level though.
