Normally, I think that would be the case - but we're in pretty desperate times and there's very little time for him to make a difference. I think we're going to let Borrero go. For one thing, I think we have a DP issue having signed Langoni and with Chancalay's injury exception expiring at the end of the season. But, the main thing, I get the impression that Borrero isn't really liked in the squad. Porter keeps referring to his maturity and young age, yet we see antics like pouting and arm waving on the field, the coaching staff exhibiting a lot of frustration with him and then, against SL, it sure looked to me like many of the Revs were avoiding passing to him when he was pretty wide-open when trying to work the ball out of the defensive end. I really like Sands - I'd work hard to re-sign him. Lima is useful and has been a warrior, but a younger guy with more speed and potential could be a better fit as a backup wingback. I've never really felt like there was any competition for Nacho's services and when he is healthy, he definitely adds some threat and great chemistry with his big brother. As for central defenders, we just need to be better. I agree, Porter doesn't seem like huge fan of Romney's game - though I don't think his attitude/professionalism can be questioned. Arreaga adds the ball skills that we lack at the position, but it seems to come at the cost of some serious mistake quotient. I liked the little I saw of Parker - enough to want to see more. He certainly brought some toughness. The real question with the cbacks is how much we can bring in and how many we can afford to let go.
Borrero is a U-22, not a DP (same with Langoni). I believe he keeps that designation until the current contract expires (even though he will be 23 in January). Chancalay is on $950K, so he could be bought down if they needed another DP slot.
Chancalay cannot currently be bought down. His cap number also includes the transfer fee the revs paid to bring him in, which bumps him above the current TAM max. If that number goes up next season then maybe he will be able to be bought down
I'd want to bring Borrero back. He's starting to look better from his injury. He should be better going forward.
Borrero on his game can threaten a lot of outside backs. I'd bring him back and I'm sure it can be done at a reasonable number. Sands isn't going anywhere. He's a Porter guy and they gave up Jones for him.
